I don't think Arizona is going to be trading Upton this Winter, especially since they've acquired their shortstop of the future without giving him up. However, they still have four starting caliber outfielders -- a good problem to have -- and may be motivated to deal one of them. It was rumored earlier this year that the Diamondbacks may want to move Parra or Kubel (http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/10/diamondbacks-weighing-trade-of-kubel-or-parra.html).
If I'm Cherington, I'm calling Phoenix to inquire about Parra's availability to see if they are still interested in moving him. He's young, his bat has potential, and he plays terrific defense. I think he'd benefit enormously from Fenway's dimensions by adding more XBHs to his stat line.
I don't know much about the overall state of Arizona's farm system, so I can't speak with absolute certainty about what they'd be looking for in a potential trade; however, I think starting a deal off with Swihart or Cecchini and working in a Jose Vinicio or Brandon Jacobs type could get the ball rolling.
Tell me why I'm stupid.

While I like Parra, I'm not sure it's a great match. I'm skeptical that he'd add extra base hits in Fenway, as whatever they're calling the park in Arizona these days is a fantastic place to hit - no way does a lefty translate better to Fenway than they do there. Check out his home-road splits. They were ok in 2011, but pretty discouraging this year. I'm not willing to write him off because of a couple hundred at bats on the road, but he's not that young either - he'll be 26 next spring. He's a nice piece, but he's probably close to the player that he's going to be. I don't give up anyone in the top 10 to get him, and maybe not anyone in the top 20 as he doesn't fit an obvious need.

You make a great point about his home and road splits. I'm based in Arizona, so whenever I go to Chase Field and watch the Diamondbacks play, I'm impressed by Parra. He's easily one of my favorite players in the game today. I took a quick glance at the balls in play tracker, mapping his hits and flyouts from 2012 on Fenway. I didn't see anything remarkable in his ground outs or lineouts, so I didn't bother including those: Just looking at his flyouts, it looks like he'd benefit some from the Monster -- maybe he'd succeed in playing pepper with it, or knocking a few over it. It's hard to draw anything from the doubles and triples data because those are the locations in which the ball was fielded, so the Monster could actually harm him some there - triples in Chase Field become doubles or singles in Fenway, etc. You are right about him not filling an area of need though. Although, if we really do want to add another outfielder to the mix, I think Parra should be under consideration - he's young, he's fast, he plays great defense, and his bat is okay but there are question marks as you said (do you get the Parra from 2010, 2011, or 2012? Somewhere in between?). Depending on where you think he best profiles defensively, you could put him anywhere in the outfield. His line against LHPs is concerning though, but he could maybe do well as our right fielder against right-handed pitchers, and Victorino could play right against lefties and Gomes in left? It's hard to say. Thanks for entertaining my crazy idea though - still trying to learn a lot about the game, sabermetrics, splits, etc. Just because I like a guy doesn't mean he'd be a great fit in Fenway or on the Red Sox.
