Ranking Changes - 3/22/16 - Baseball is BACK!

DetailsSummary:- The top 7 are unchanged in order, but:
- # 6 Brian Johnson's ceiling is down from 6 to 5
- The current grade for Sam Travis (# 7) is up from 4 to 5 and his floor is up from 2 to 4
- Luis Alexander Basabe is up 2 coming in at # 8, knocking Deven Marrero & Michael Chavis down a notch.
- Marco Hernandez is up 3 at # 11 and his current grade is now 4.
- Travis Lakins really jumped up in the rankings, from 23 to 12.
- Mauricio Dubon moved from 15 to 13 despite his ceiling dropping from 6 to 5.
- Trey Ball dropped from 11 to 15 and his current and ceiling grades fell to 3 & 6 respectively.
- Chis Acosta is now 19, up 9.
- Wendell Rijo fell by 8 with his current and ceiling grades both dropping a point.
- Kyle Martin moved up from 31 to 22.
- Teddy Stankiewicz went the other way, from 17 to 23.
- Henry Ramos is the big winner this time, up 17 spots, from 41 to 24.
- Austin Rei was also on the plus side, now # 25, up from 36.
- Austin Glorius up from 30 to 26.
- Ty Buttrey & Noe Ramirez both down 9 coming in at 29 & 30.
- Yankory Pimentel went from 44 to 31.
- Marc Brakeman up from 40 to 33.
- Roniel Raudes at 34, up 9.
- Bryce Brentz (ranked 5th after the 2012 season) fell another 11 spots and is now 35th.
- Jordan Procyshen (I think I spelled it right!!) down 8 at 37th.
- Jeremy Rivera +7 to # 38.
- The other Basabe, Luis Alejandro is ranked for the first time at 40.
- Kevin McAvoy & Ben Taylor are at 41 and 42, down 16 and 15.
- Victor Acosta, Gerson Bautista, and Sean Coyle are at 43 - 45, down 7, 11, and 7 respectively.
- Imeldo Diaz is ranked for the first time at # 50.
- Jose Almonte is at 52, back in the top 60 for the first time in 18 months.
- Junior Espinoza joins the top 60 for the first time at # 53.
- Darwinzon Hernandez is also new at 55.
- Kyri Washington dropped 11 spots from 45 to 56.
- Another newcomer to the rankings is Nick Duron at # 57
- Jake Romanski just hung onto his spot in the rankings, down from 48 to 59.

I'm curious about the bump up that Christopher Acosta had. His DSL debut was unremarkable, even pretty bumpy. What data drove this jump in the ranks for him? Last I heard he was 88-91 without any standout secondary stuff. Granted, he's only 17, but he's ranked awfully high based on those numbers and last year's scouting. I'm (really) hoping he showed something somewhere, sometime that I hadn't heard about. If he suddenly lived up to his bonus hype it would be amazing.

Telson, I would point you to his page which notes that he sits in the low 90's with good movement. That said, I'm sure there's an update coming from the guys who were down at camp now that they've seen him in person. I suppose just the fact that he's in camp is worth something, although with a mature mix/pitchability, it'd be a disappointment if he weren't. DD, I'm very happy to see this feature back, and thanks again for all your work. I'm very excited to see the climbing from LXB, Marco, Lakins, C. Acosta, Rei, Raudes and Ramos. The guys who dropped were mostly guys I've already started to write off who were just waiting for someone to take their place, though it's certainly disappointing to see both Ball and Stank falling down the list as their promise seems less and less likely. Anyway, gives us a good idea who to watch this season. |

I suppose just the fact that he's in camp is worth something, although with a mature mix/pitchability, it'd be a disappointment if he weren't. DD, I'm very happy to see this feature back, and thanks again for all your work. I'm very excited to see the climbing from LXB, Marco, Lakins, C. Acosta, Rei, Raudes and Ramos. I remember hearing less-than-stellar reports from last summer, although he did have some minor injuries...maybe he came back after and had better stuff. He's definitely got breakout potential with his height and build. That underlying talent, if it develops, gives them another big arm in the pipeline. |
