Matt Huegel stays on fire with another great article about another very intriguing Sox prospect. news.soxprospects.com/2016/03/chavis-optimistic-after-offseason.htmlThe offensive tools are there, but he needs to cut down on his strikeouts and hopefully improve his OBP. The game power is there already. He still needs work on defense. He's lost 18 pounds after working with a nutritionist and working hard to become more athletic. He's one of the more fascinating prospects this year for me. He's flying a bit under the radar and he could be one guy who rises in the rankings if he can show why he was a #1 draft pick. Are you optimistic?

That was a fantastic article, and if he modifies his two-strike approach with the shorter swing, he could have a big year. In high school he likely was able to swing for the fences every at bat due to his pure ability, but it's great to see he knows he has to be a hitter, and not just a power hitter. Let's hope he puts it together this season, or at least moves closer, as having another hitter with upside would be great! I also loved the part about Devers and Chavis bouncing off each other for help; great to see camaraderie like that in the system.

Really well done article Matt! Chavis is someone who I'm excited to watch this season, and this article further enhanced that excitement.

I'm glad that he's separated from Devers now, if he does go back to Greenville.

If he got slimmer, would a switch back to SS be an option?
I totally forgot how young he is. Compared to Benintendi for instance he still has time to find himself. Awesome read, Matt really nails them these days

Awesome read, Matt really nails them these days I've wondered that too. He's strong for his size and not a big guy anyway. He's got enough arm probably. If he shortened up and got more selectively aggressive, he could easily profile above-average offensively...not sure about the defense, but SS/3b is a lot more valuable than 3b/1b/DH.

If he got slimmer, would a switch back to SS be an option? He's not a very good defender at 3B right now, so no chance. Had nothing to do with the body.

It's got be a slight letdown watching almost the entire Greenville roster move up to Salem, & him being left behind. Almost as if he has to repeat the 9th grade or something. It may be a good or bad thing, we'll see.

It may be a good or bad thing, we'll see. FWIW, he saw how that worked out for Ty Buttrey last year. When I've talked to him at least, he seems like the type who will keep a positive outlook.
