I'm not a big Farrell guy, but I'm not taking the word of a guy who was benched then traded too seriously.

What communication? He was the starter pretty much all season, then in September they finally tried to make a move when he was hitting .200 or so for the past three months. I've heard from a source on the Red Sox beat that Shaw felt entitled to stay in the lineup even when he wasn't hitting and got really butt-hurt (as we all saw in his quotes at the time) when they called up Moncada and started playing Holt ahead of him. Maybe they could've explained a bit better that "hey, you need to start hitting" or something sooner, but what did he think was going to happen? I call sour grapes. I remember Shaw hit a Homerun or got a big hit in September and when he got to the dugout he was trying to stick it to Moncada in some way. He was like barking and looking over his way like "you brought this kid here huh". And Moncada was sitting all by himself and didnt know what to do with himself he looked uncomfortable. Thats just one situation, but if I notice all the time watching the games on NESN that Shaw had a really bad attitude I can only imagine what he was like at all times.

I'm not surprised by the Shaw quote. I remember one point last summer when he was in the depths of slumping, both he and Farrell were separately asked if fatigue was a factor and they gave opposite responses. Never really seemed like Shaw and Farrell meshed that well.

Shaw kind of reminded me of Hillenbrand, not the type of player he was on the field, but more of the kind of attitude. Shaw, like Hillenbrand, struck me as somebody who thought he was much better than what he was in reality.
The fact of the matter is that Shaw stunk up the joint pretty badly for four months and showed no signs of improvement. He deserved to lose his job. For all his complaining, he still wound up with the most important AB of the year, and he flied out and the season was over. A run scoring single and who knows, maybe the Red Sox pull off a comeback over an Indians team they were expected to beat.

Meanwhile in Arizona Lovullo over .500 with half the talent After starting 6-1, they're 12-15 since and have lost 8 of their last 12 as they regress back to what they were supposed to be. Also the NL West is terrible.

The seat is getting warmer Might be, but they don't have a viable replacement waiting in the wings like they did before.

To watch this infield everyday is driving me up the walls. They keep kicking the ball around.

I think it is time for a change. I think Farrell takes some of the blame for how last year ended/how the team went into the playoffs flat as a pancake (took the pedal off the metal too soon). He seems like a good guy, supports his players, etc - but not sure this particular team will play all out for him. And it is getting a bit worse over time.

Can you be a bit more specific as to who, on this roster, is/are not playing all out for him? I ask because I have not seen anything but all out effort by his team.

I thought it would be interesting to kick this up to see if/how minds have changed between 2016 and considering 2017. And it is interesting.

That Shaw comment about communication on the previous page was interesting...this is the first time I've seen that. Now we have Jon Heyman, who I know some might take with a grain of salt, saying in an article today that word was getting around this year that a lot of the clubhouse thinks Farrell is not even a decent communicator. Just observing him over the years (and especially after some of the incidents this year), it makes sense to me that he's probably a weak communicator. Also, it seems that the young guys loved Lovullo in that clubhouse; they always seemed to gravitate to him on the bench when he was around.
