Day 5 from last start for Ball, but MiLB now listing German Taveras as the starter in Game 2. Even though they haven't played in a couple days, they need to keep the rotation in line because they don't have an off-day in the next five days. It's easier to run a bullpen game in a doubleheader, 7-inning game than it is in a 9-inning game in a few days, so this makes sense. Ben Taylor would've made logical sense but he threw on Saturday.

From the Portland game notes, Ryan Court was Rob Wort's indy teammate last year, so they've probably had him in their back pockets as someone to potentially sign if needed. Matty Johnson was also on that team.

Moncada is 2-3 with a Grand Slam for his first HR of the year. He also stole a base again.
Devers 1-3, 3B

Moncada is on pace to steal 100 bases this year with over a 500 AB season, which is kinda good.

Good to see Eduardo Rodriguez pitch better tonight. His final line is skewed a lot because of that bad 1st inning topped of by a 2-run homer, but his final line was 6.0 innings 5 hits 3 runs 3 earned runs 0 walks 3 k's......and his pitch count up to 84. Maybe one more start and he MAY be ready.

Oh please get Benintendi out of Salem already. Too cold to play in the Eastern League? Then ship him off to Pawtucket!

Radio saying over the last week Moncada is getting a ridiculous amount of breaking pitches leading the the Ks after working counts deep

I'm guessing Moncada could fix the k-problem by giving up some walks and being more aggressive early. That's why strikeouts aren't really a problem when there are a lot of walks to go with it.

Benintendi is of course easy to drool over but from the offensive side considering all the factors, I'm not so sure that he's had as big an impact as Moncada.

He's 21 years old in High A, you can pile up walks by being passive at the plate, kids down there are having troubles throwing strikes. When you move up the ladder, you'll face pitchers with better stuff who throw more strikes, so if the guy is K'ing at a 23% clip in A ball, at what rate do you think he'll Ks at AA? I see a big time red flag with these contact issues. A thing I've learned following prospects during these years: Strikeouts are predictive, walks are not.
