As I said in Twitter, I bet he is the long guy for now, but if they don't use him, he could start on Tuesday, idea being Rodriguez is back the next turn, ideally.

Yeah, giving him a shot is always better than giving one to Cuevas. Cuevas is bad, Cuevas is unbelievably bad. Edit: We also know that a member of the FO posts here under the name Sox fan in NC.

Brian Johnson threw just one inning on Wednesday and his next start would be Monday, so he's an option for the MLB start on Tuesday. Elias might be as well, though I think he'll pitch the night game tomorrow (Saturday) for the PawSox, and if he does that, he'd be out of the running.

Rodriquez is slotted for Sunday, yes? Maybe he pitches in NY for the Sox and they push everyone else back a day. A not-quite-ready erod might still be the best option to fill out the rotation, and if they have to mess with the schedule to get him in the rotation sooner or later, might as well do it sooner. Sullivan would just be temporary filler in this scenario
Add: this would also bracket Erod between Price and Wright, and put Buchholz between Wright and Porcello, theoretically putting the two most likely candidates for short outings between pitchers that can be reasonably expected to eat some innings.

It's an interesting idea, but I think you have to play the long game with Rodriguez and focus more on building him up properly rather than rushing him up for one extra start.

I think the plan for Kelly is that he'll pitch 3 innings tonight then it's Elias. I've read it somewhere but I might be wrong.

Guess I was WAY wrong on this one. Cuevas has been since coming back down and already on the 40. I'd just bring him up.

Well the front office thinks Henry Owens is such a train wreck that they would rather carry a horrible pitcher for a Yankees series and deal with having no simple solution for a starter on Tuesday.

Maybe in a few weeks, there will be a story on what Bannister did to fix O'Sullivan. 5 walks and 32 Ks in 33 innings is pretty awesome and not something he has ever approached in his minor or major league career. Yes, SSS...
I did look him up after watching him pitch a spring training game because he has some nice movement on his pitches.

If you think that E-Rod up to his pitch limit plus the bullpen gives you a better chance of winning than O'Sullivan or Johnson, then you do it. You're going to be pushing back Wright and Buchholz no matter when you call him up. The only reason you wouldn't start him is if you think he's likely to be relatively rusty and ineffective in his next start.

I know he's been good in AAA so far, but O'Sullivan is like an awful awful pitcher.

For the first rehab, Pedro went to watch. Afterwards he commented that ERod needs 3-4 more rehab starts to rebuild his leg strength. I know that doesn't answer the % question but it does show what the issue is.

Evan Drellich evandrellich 7m7 minutes ago Farrell said Eduardo Rodriguez may be done with his rehab assignment after tomorrow's start. Tim Britton @timbritton 11m11 minutes ago Red Sox haven't announced a starter for Tuesday, but Farrell said again O'Sullivan is a candidate. Sounds like he's the only one.
