Stupid head John Farrell is now 73-72 as the Red Sox manager in one-run games. Fortunately he was out-stupided today. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

Clay Buchholz looks like hes gonna live another day Honestly? Best outing he has so far this season in terms of stuff. We know when Clay's secondary are working, he's lights out. I'm optimistic he'll go on nice run from here...'till he gets injured of course.

Dear John,
Thank you for using our crap relievers and getting that out of the way last night.....so we could use the good relivers today to win the ballgame.
Keep it up! Your doing a great job.

Farrell has said CB is not in danger of losing his rotation spot. O'Sullivan is an easy choice to be the first one dropped. And what did Joe Kelly show early this year to make us think he'd be any better/less maddening than CB?

we should really change the 2016 theme from the "David Ortiz retirement tour" to the "David Ortiz will be back for one or two more" tour

I just went back to the 9th inning (which I missed) ... that Hanley bunt was one of the funnier things I've seen. There's just nothing good about that decision. You need one run and there's David Ortiz on third, and you bunt? Hilarious.

It's only hilarious because, thanks to god David, we won.
It reminded me of Manny diving to cut-off a throw from CF.....

If Buchholz can ever get bite out of his sinking fastball, he would be a dangerous pitcher.
But as long as it slurves instead of bites, he will continue to get hit hard.

Random question: Ortiz didn't touch second before Bogaerts scored but was credited with a double. What qualifies a double in a walk off scenario?

ROFL!!!!!!! DUMB ASTROS!!! 1st base open and you pitch to him? ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png) I know it was 2-2, but base empty . . . Astro's deserve that.... You walk him with 1B open 1000000 times out of 1000000 Hey Farrell bashers (myself included at times), why (would another manager) the hell would you EVER face Big Papi in that situation? WHY? ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png) How stupid. He made them pay. He is amazing. I will miss this guy so much!! Ortiz in his career: .285 / .378 / .549 overall .217 / .332 / .418 after 2-2 And in a SSS, Feliz's split is bigger than MLB average, so you'd reduce those numbers a bit; and then increase them because Ortiz is having a monster year and is a very bad man. Hanley is good, and Hanley is hot. Feliz has almost no career split. It's very unclear that you were better off facing Hanley than facing Papi with 1 strike left. Had the WP happened on the first pitch, completely different story.

Random question: Ortiz didn't touch second before Bogaerts scored but was credited with a double. What qualifies a double in a walk off scenario? 99.8% sure that when the game ends like that you are awarded the base you are heading to if you don't abandon the play. Ortiz was heading to second, Red Sox won, continued to the base for a double.

I don't know when this happened, but the best third baseman in the league is now Travis Shaw (not counting Machado since he's playing shortstop).

a) David Laurila's always been a talented interviewer ... he gets people to say interesting things. b) It's at best arguable that Hinch should've ordered an IBB of Papi, and it probably was the right decision to pitch to him at that point. As Eric pointed out, even Ortiz is mortal with two strikes. The real problem is that Feliz threw a bad pitch; he should've buried that changeup, but he left it up over the plate. There's an odd reluctance around here just to acknowledge that it's usually the players who win and lose games. Sometimes, the manager makes the right call, and the players screw it up. Even more often, a manager makes a call that could go either way, and the players either do it or don't. Personally, I know that I'd be aggressive in challenging my players to win the game and not shy away from situations. If they can't handle it, eventually I'd get rid of them, but I would go for it on fourth down, pitch to guys with a base open if it's a close call ... screw it, this is competition. I'd lose some games that way, but I think you need players who react well to being challenged. Of course, if Xander had hit a double or the WP had happened on the first pitch, I'd walk Papi. That's just common sense.

Have we given proper thanks to our bullpen yesterday for putting up 5 scoreless innings? It wasn't necessarily as clean or as dominant as what the Yanks bullpen did yesterday, but they quietly won that game alongside Ortiz (and Bogey).
