Have we given proper thanks to our bullpen yesterday for putting up 5 scoreless innings? It wasn't necessarily as clean or as dominant as what the Yanks bullpen did yesterday, but they quietly won that game alongside Ortiz (and Bogey). Have we also given thanks to Joe Kelly for the "flour cloud" idea? That was pretty awesome and has to rank as his best contribution to the team so far this year.

Does that count as a double? Xander clearly scores before he gets to 2nd. Papi made the call when he took 2nd base with him.

Silly thought (the silliest baseball one I've ever had), but I was talking about the Mount Rushmore of Red Sox icons with a buddy and he said as much as it pains him, he would exclude Yaz and have Teddy Ballgame, Pedro, Papi, and Pesky (Mr. Red Sox)as his four guys while I'd omit Pesky and go with Yaz.
I was thinking about how different these guys are. It occurred to me that Ortiz was a Red Sox god yesterday like Ted Williams, but thinking about it today, he seems more like a superhero to me, kind of like Superman, who ran into some kryptonite in 2009, was neutralized by it, shook it off, and then re-emerged with super powers even greater that no mortal pitcher can stop, especially when he swoops in and saves the day (or the season like in 2013). And when he wears that red hoodie of his, I swear it's really just his cape.
So if Williams is a god (and as John Updike says they don't answer letters), and Papi is a superhero, then I think Pedro was an extreme artist (kind of baseball's answer to Prince in a way), and Yaz was just a mere blue collar mortal who had his heroic moments (and 1967 of course). Pesky was more of a saint.
Alright, end of crazy thoughts. I guess David Ortiz walk-offs have that affect on me.

Let us not forget the man who scored both runs, Xander Bogaerts. Current line: 340/389/490 ... that's 879 OPS for you scoring at home. Currently has the best AVG, best OBP, and best SLG of any shortstop in baseball the league with enough ABs to qualify (meant AL, typed all of baseball).

Going the other way and finding holes is definitely a skill, that's for sure. Combining that with his driving the ball lately is awesome to watch.

Random question: Ortiz didn't touch second before Bogaerts scored but was credited with a double. What qualifies a double in a walk off scenario? He clearly had 2nd without a play at around the same time X scored That makes it a viable double, as opposed to the single awarded most often on walkoffs.

I'm annoyed with no Papi in today's starting 9. Speaking of which, anyone else think Mookie could use a day off?

At some point, they really need Benintendi in LF so they can start giving days off to guys by using Holt and skipping the huge dropoff in ability.

Highest scoring team in the majors and the #3 hitter squares to bunt in the first inning with 0 outs? Umm no. Every player on the team should be told there's no bunting allowed unless it's called for.

I remember when we had guys like Salty and AJP behind the plate who also made throws like that. Glad we don't anymore.

This line-up is goofy, why would you even pitch to Hanley there? But there's the catch, the line-up is like 8 guys that make you wonder why anyone would pitch to them.

Agree with the E1 there, that is a play pitchers should be able to make.

Can someone explain to me why Sean O'Sullivan is still pitching for us when Joe Kelly is done with his rehab?
Good god. So stupid.

Uehara: 49 pitches the last two days, certainly not available Hembree: last pitched an inning on the 12th, should be able to go multiple innings Ross: 15 pitches in 1.1 IP on the 13th, should be good for an inning at least Tazawa: 18 pitches in 1.1 IP yesterday, would be better to give him a day off but probably available if needed Kimbrel: 36 pitches the last two days, probably not available Smith: 12 pitches yesterday, should be able to go an inning or more Barnes: 34 pitches the day before yesterday, should be available for an inning Layne: 24 pitches yesterday, should be available for an inning
