Got in a bit of a scuff up at SkyDome tonight, boys. He said Nomar wasn't that good.

Time to give Koji a vacation for a while. Koji in his career has allowed an OPS 190 points higher to 3 and 4 hitters than he has to 7 to 9 hitters (non-pitchers). That's a good proxy for his splits by opponent quality. Tazawa's split is 102 points. Tazawa has outpitched Koji all year, not surprising given Koji's age. Given those splits, I would never assign them strict 7th and 8th inning roles. I'd use Koji against the weaker hitters and Tazawa against the better ones. That's maximizing Koji's value. So, he used Taz against 7-8-9 (because ... 7th inning!) and Koji against the top of the order, where he got smoked by a 3/4 quality hitter who hits 2nd because his manager knows to do that. It's thoughtless.

Caught the Sox "rally" thanks to that pratfall in left, then we walked out the door just as Donaldson's bloop homer cleared the fence.
I wrote earlier that the team might want to be cautious with Uehara. Maybe they shouldn't plan for more than 40 games from the guy something like every fourth day or so. They do have other options, and Ross was warming up at the start of the inning, if I remember right.
I suppose they thought to save him for extra innings after Boston tied it. It might be good for them to try the guy out in those higher leverage situations once in a while.

Koji is not 2013 Koji anymore, but he's still a very good reliever-- he's got a 2.97 SIERA this year, for instance. As his velo continues to drop, he's had to be a little more fine with his location, thus the increased walk rate, but he's still striking a ton of guys out and getting a ton of infield fly balls.

At what point does Dombrowski make a move to upgrade or help the Staff? This Team as constituted might be able to hit there way through American League pitching but if a chance to play the Nationals, Mets or Cubs the starting and relief pitching does not come close to matching up. Not to mention Toronto and the Yankees starting to get it going. Far as Pawtucket help? At what point do you let these pitchers grow into a role at the Major League level? Light, Cuevas, Owens, Johnson, Pimental, Jerez. The age of some of these players is pushing 25, lets see what you got.

The fact that NESN is grooming Lyons to be the Remy replacement shows just how bad that station is at talent evaluation.

The three stooges talking about whether a player should be happy with a 1-4 day with a HR and 3 SO makes my head hurt. Let me do the math for you boys. That's a 1.250 OPS. Yeah, every player should be happy with a day like that.

Wow, that's a brutal foul tip. You don't stagger like that and fall down without it being a grade 2 concussion.

I mean, there was some choosing to do yesterday between NESN and RSN - today it was a very easy decision.

Mookie's streakiness is less than ideal out of your leadoff hitter.

To be fair, Vazquez mis-framed that. He tried to be too clever doing the "set up in one spot, shift last-second to another" thing.
