They haven't "cancelled the post game show" yet through 6 innings in Portland.

Ball wasn't awful today. Pretty good, actually. Still 3K's, 2BB's isn't exciting. Just 7-5 for the GO/FO ratio. Still no runs on 4 hits in 5.1 innings. Eric should have stayed another day.
Poyner got lit up, though. Still, Salem Sox won thanks to Moncada, Dubon, Devers, Mars, and Monge all going 2-4. Devers had triple and Mars had 2 triples.

That is the problem with our perception of Trey Ball.....little swing and miss. 3 K's don't excite anyone at this level. Still he is 21 and has gotten a little better each season. I guess will have an ace by the time he celebrates his 45th birthday. I'd love to know what his weight is now. He is still listed as 185. Love to get that boy at 200 at least.

Poyner got lit up, though. Still, Salem Sox won thanks to Moncada, Dubon, Devers, Mars, and Monge all going 2-4. Devers had triple and Mars had 2 triples. He actually had 6 GB and 9 balls in the air, which isn't his usual ratio at all. He was helped by a pair of baserunning outs: man tagging at second after a 1-out fly ball and Monge throwing him out (not as stupid a play as it sounds, as he'd been wild-pitched to 2nd to begin with, and Ball would throw another the next inning), and a guy out trying to score from second on an infield hit. It looks like as much a lucky outing as a good one, but that's better than suck. In a perfect world I certainly do rent a hotel room, and catch today's game, and then come home (rather than leave at 10:10 PM and arrive home at 3:36 AM, which is actually a typical bedtime). Perhaps in the future I'll have the spare time and the extra cash!

Ball gaining weight may slow his slow arm speed.

My boy! The adjustments this offseason are showing. His contact % has risen from 66.9% in 2015 to 85.5% so far this season. He's dropped his K% as a result from 30.6% to 12.9%. All the while he has not sacrificed his power. Clearly still small sample size but this is extremely encouraging. I'd expect him to rise in the rankings in the not to distant future.
