As expected, Wendell Rijo is being shipped back to Salem, per Kevin Thomas. Portland will need to make one more move to fit Moncada, Beeks and Taylor on the roster.

So is this a Moncada Double Header? Or is he skipping the ASG?

Bleacher report also had him skipping the ASG. Not sure why he would not go. I think he was nicked up a bit the past week in Salem, maybe they want him to get acclimated to Portland, get him set up, ect.

Yoan Moncada will be in Portland, ME for the game tonight. We haven’t received the lineups yet so I'm not sure if he is in it or not but I do know that he has joined our team as of today. Let me know if you have any additional questions!
Thank you,

Has the roster been released for the Gulf Coast team? The season starts on Friday so something should be announced soon. I'm still looking at the "projected" roster on this website.

No big deal. Moncada starts for Portland tonight, batting leadoff. He gets the first inning in the field and his first inning AB, then is immediately pulled, gets on a supersonic jet and is flown to CA, where he appears as a PH in the 9th inning of the California/Carolina AS game.
Piece of cake.

In years past the GCL roster gets updated about an hour (if not less) before their first game. I doubt there will be anything different this year, but who knows.

Or swing and miss at. Or get hit by, followed by a 2 month DL stint. Will be interesting to see the difference between the first and second half records in Portland now that they have a little more talent to work with both at the plate and on the mound.

The SAL all-star game nomination is a feather in his cap but it's a small one. There will be showier ones going forward.

Interesting bit of muscling up on the ball that Lin put into the one he hit deep to RCF. That one sounded as good as he hit the thing last inning.

Coyle's load is nowhere near as pronounced as years past. . . . Moncada appeared to miss badly on several sliders. In general, small sample, I know, but Benintendi looked more in control of his ABs his first games at AA than Moncada tonight.
Lucas Giolito tomorrow night !!!

So who is this Darwintzon Hernandez? That was impressive Lowell debut. IFA, he apparently ticked up his velocity, a lot. Ian Cundall Ian CundallStrong first 3 innings for Lowell LHP Darwinzon Hernandez tonight. FB 91-93 T94 w/cut. Deceptive delivery from L3/4 slot. CB 73-77, CH 84. Profile (from DSL days) 88-90 topping at 91 ADD: That's pretty decent speed for a cutter, especially at 19 years old. I'm guessing that the part that says "Profiles best in a bullpen role" will be changed. That also makes him someone to keep an eye on. (#59 on SP ranking).

Between Pennington, Steen and now Hernandez there is a few arms down in Lowell worth keeping an eye on. Will be even better when (if) Shawaryn and Anderson arrive as well!
