On paper it probably is a fair deal in a lot of ways. But I don't think it will help the Sox long term and could potentially hurt them. If they make a trade with this calibur of talent it needs to be for a front of the rotation starter. Justin Upton is not going to solve their problems. The farm system would be weakened , making it harder to trade for or develop frontline starters. And if Upton continued his downward trend and didn't reach his cieling....It could be a disaster.
There is no sure thing when it comes to prospects. But at the same time prospects like Xander Bogarts don't come around often. He is as close to a sure thing as we have had since Hanley. And if for some reason he dissapoints its not like we wasted all kinds of money. And with the Sox track record they will probably have other prospects ready to take his place. But thats the worst case senario of course.

What the Red Sox need is a homegrown superstar named Xander Bogaerts. I could care less about anything else.
If they trade him somebody will be opening a thread talking about how we should trade for him again because he is the "middle of the order piece the team has been lacking since the Manny-Ortiz duo."
I really like the idea of Upton but not for that price. If he was in Boston he would be getting killed for his inconsistencies. He's the type of player that would struggle to cope with the stupidity that is the Boston market.
Moving right along.

If we sign Napoli and Napoli's hip blows out, ie: Lowell, then does it makes sense to put Boegarts at 1st?

I'd stick him in either LF or RF before I'd ever put him at 1b. Let him try 1b when his range is totally gone and he's 35. Meanwhile, if he's serviceable enough at SS, then count your blessings that the Sox will have one of the top offensive SS in baseball.

If Xander and Barnes are going in a package it's for a future HOFer in Stanton.

No way......and I mean......no way you trade either of those two players unless you get someone like Stanton or Hernandez. Even there I might get chicken. Justin Upton is NOT worth us trading either of those players.
