Something to keep in mind: The division leading Orioles have a bad (maybe even worst) starting pitching. Wilson just gave up 5 runs in 2 innings. Just a reminder.

There's no way we can send Sandy Leon back to Pawtucket, right? SSS, but hes been better than Vazquez and Hanigan at all facets of the game. This is a joke, right? The real question now is how far is the Sandynator from the MVP conversation and I'm betting he's not that far. Dude's willing the Red Sox to another WS win under Farrell.

"Who cares how hard Hanley hits the ball, he's a terrible hitter because he keeps making outs!" Funny how we don't hear that anymore.

If he keeps hitting them on the ground, it doesn't matter, he's not getting XBHs and we've been facing a lot of LHP lately. Look at his pulled balls profile: 70% of them are grounders! 70%! That's 2014 Allen Craig level so of course his Pull ISO went MIA. If they start attacking him inside as the NL Central has done to Craig, he's toast.

Sean O'Sullivan is undefeated with a 6.61 ERA. What a time to be alive for him. He's up over 300 innings with a 6.03 ERA. Truly amazing that he keeps getting chances.

Watched the end of the SEA-BAL game. The Mariners took it to the Orioles for the 3rd straight game. Dipoto has built himself a decent team. They had the nucleus what with Hernandez and the rest of the pitching staff. They have more than enough hitting with Cano, Cruz, Seager, as the big bats, players like Seth Smith, Franklin Gutierrez, and Adam Lind having decent years, and very good defense up the middle with Ianmetta, Leonys Martin and relative newcomer Ketel Marte at SS. They've got decent bullpen arms as well (built from pieces here and there) and they may just stay in the hunt this year. The Sox go there in September. That may be a great series.
Watched the Sox' game yesterday right up till it went 9-0. All the errors depressed the s**t out of me. I left to run around town, but did glance at my phone on and off and the numbers got absolutely eye-popping. I see my guy Ross getting hammered.
Today looked like it was a lot better. That Eastern division is going to be a gut-buster I believe. Everything has really tightened up.

Vazquez has options left and I don't believe Leon does. It would be bad asset management to lose Leon in order to avoid demoting a .583 OPS C who would have to spend only two months in the minors (September call-ups) at most. Then again, this is the organization that's paying ~$35 million for Allen Craig, Pablo Sandoval and Rusney Castillo, so let's wait and see.

Several of the teams (Baltimore, Detroit, K.C.) in about the same standings spot as the Red Sox have the same pitching issues and maybe not as many possible answers. I can't see the Sox as World Champions minus a very serious series of flukes . I just can't see this as "the year." Let's just all hope that D.D. does not do anything foolish. Off season; break the bank for the best available free agent pitcher and hope that Ortiz takes half a year off and then comes back to finish the push.

If half the Red Sox starting pitchers could take a page from "Minus-Two Shillelagh O'Sullivan" and just not beat themselves, or totally cave, this staff would be fine. If you could put O'Sullinan's brain in Buchholtz's body right now you would have a top ten starter in MLB.

The free agent SP list looks very depressing indeed, but I hope they go hard on Rich Hill and Chapman rather than acquiring a Teheran or a Gray in the trade market.

Most of the time, the World Series champion enjoys a series of flukes on the way to the title.

Shame that DD may be readying a prospect package for Hill, when he could have had him for short money in the offseason. Team was so hung up on Buchholz and E-Rod that they ignored him. Oh, well, hindsight, as they say, but they had a solution right in their house.

Shame that DD may be readying a prospect package for Hill, when he could have had him for short money in the offseason. Team was so hung up on Buchholz and E-Rod that they ignored him. Oh, well, hindsight, as they say, but they had a solution right in their house. They chose Joe Kelly over him, too. I'd like to point the finger at Dombrowski and say how dumb he was to do that, but I can't because I'd have to look in the mirror, too. It's hard to guarantee a rotation spot to somebody based on 4 excellent starts. The Sox had a ton of candidates, most of them much younger with better stuff. Based opn 2015 performances over a much longer stretch Buchholz and E-Rod had earned their spots and really weren't in question for 2016. Rich Hill hasn't thrown a 100 innings in many, many, years, so he was hardly a better investment than those other guys (mainly Kelly), who, with the exception of Wright, all (Owens, Elias, Johnson) have failed spectacularly. So yeah, it's kind of ironic and scary to think how much it will cost to get Hill back. But I still think the Red Sox were being reasonable in choosing the other options over Hill. Being reasonable doesn't always mean you make the right choice, though.
