There are actually two days off between the end of the season and the start of the playoffs, which makes the timing slightly off. With his short outing yesterday, I wonder if they'll bring him back on three days rest on Sunday so that he's ready for Game two on regular rest? Or will they be content giving him seven days of rest, knowing he'll have the chance to boost his innings total in the AFL? I hate to ask this, but are you being sarcastic and talking about the major league roster? lol Carolina League playoffs. I'm trying to discuss Kopech as he exists here on earth and in Virginia. It's unfortunate that the real Kopech thread got merged with the one for the mythical Aztec coyote trickster god Ko Pec who throws such deceiving pitches that Carolina League hitters forget to swing and Carolina League umpires forget to call strikes. EDIT: Similarly named fellows, from easiest to differentiate to hardest. 1. Xander Bogaerts and Jair Bogaerts 2. Luis Alexander Basabe and Luis Alejandro Basabe 3. Michael Kopech and Trickster God Ko Pec 4. Stanley Espinal and Santiago Espinal

Uncanny Assuming the top pic was from May, it's clear that last nights debacle was the result of a change in arm slot.

^ No. I've had your so called "dead-arm" (which is often just a minor rotator cuff strain) and I can tell you that my velocity ticked down more than 15 mph until I stopped throwing entirely for about 3 months.
Our friend Kopech is more likely suffering Daniel Bard syndrome

Our friend Kopech is more likely suffering Daniel Bard syndrome The orthopedic doctors claim the dead-arm injury takes many forms and does not always result in a large loss in velocity, although it can, as in your case. This could be the same sort of dead-arm injury that Chapman had in 2012, after he got to a little over 60 innings. Chapman's velocity ticked down to 95-97 and he walked three batters. That was all the indication of dead-arm that was needed and Chapman was given some rest. bleacherreport.com/articles/1332606-how-aroldis-chapmans-tired-arm-is-warning-sign-never-to-make-him-a-starterBard had a different ailment called thoracic outlet syndrome. It affected the nerves in his hand and reduced his spin rate. www.providencejournal.com/article/20160314/SPORTS/160319664

Dead arm (even assuming he is currently suffering from it) didn't factor into him not being called up. It was never going to happen this year.

Although if he starts next year in the bigs, or gets called up quickly, then we'll have some evidence that he would have been called up this year, had it not been for the (presumed) dead-arm injury. It ain't over 'til it's over.... yogi.

So you're saying he's a Mayan god? Awesome! Have to check with the mods, but confusing the Aztecs for the Mayans might be against the forum guidelines and grounds for immediate banning.

I look forward to the kid in AA next year and maybe by mid year he moves to AAA. Then in September he is moved up to the big club, maybe. The dead arm theory just, IMHO, adds ammunition to the idea that kopech needs to be brought along slowly to build up his arm, his control, and his ability to be a pitcher not a thrower. They have 2 more years before they have to bring him up to the 40 man roster. Right now they have 6 on the big club and 3 more at AAA for starters. All your data shows he can be an outstanding pitcher at the major league level, just not sure how fast that happens.

I'm sure you understand that it could have been self-defense, or provocation, or any number of other mitigating circumstances. We have no evidence to say he did anything wrong. Notably, the Red Sox did not take any disciplinary action against Kopech. I haven't been able to find who the other player was. Although he was said to be a very good friend of Kopech's. But Heyman wrote that a scout he talked to said the other fellow had it coming. Punching someone MAY be wrong, but certainly not always. Have you never been in a fight? Have you never lost your temper with some knucklehead, or had to defend yourself or someone else?? This may become rare with age but fistfights are common among kids, and are preferable by far to knives, guns and other weapons. On this, IMO, Kopech gets a pass. If it is a pattern, he doesn't. I have not seen a pattern The fact that he lost so much time with a broken hand after a fight with a teammate does say an awful lot about him. It says that he never watched Bull Durham. Not sure if I can root for someone like that.

Maybe it's that scene in Bull Durham where Annie gives Nuke Laloosh some advice… Annie: “I want you to breathe through your eyelids.” Nuke: “My eyelids???” Annie: “Like the lava lizards of the Galapagos Islands.” She also has him start wearing a garter belt under his uniform… so that he can free his mind from distractions when he is on the mound.

The Sox have an exciting young prospect and there are actually a bunch of guys happy to see him stink in a couple of games so that they can win an argument on the Internet. I was going to say only in Boston, but today I looked at a bunch of other AL & NL team forums and it's the same all over.

Moderators, is missing a Bull Durham reference grounds for lifetime banning? As for the content of this thread, it's gone so far off the rails, I'm not sure it's worth commenting, but Kopech's a VERY talented prospect who needs some experience to see if he can get his delivery locked in enough to control the ball consistently. There's nothing all that complicated about it, it's a story repeated countlessly in the minor leagues over the last 100 years.

Kopech doesn't have to "stink" to fall short of the trolling proclamations in this thread, he just has to not be an immortal pitcher in the big leagues literally today.
