In fairness to Schilling, he did say that the only stuff he had heard were rumors and that he wouldn't be surprised if they turned out to be false. So lets stop playing a game of telephone and make matters even worse.... I heard he paid you to say that. Careless spending during a time of unemployment, if you ask me.

Curt Schilling is doing a world rock throwing tour, going from glass house to glass house across the globe. Can we get Agent Smith to work his magic on Schilling? EDIT: Apparently I have no clue how insert/post GIF's

"This person was good at throwing a baseball. And so, even though he's never been right about anything, let's hear his thoughts on the subject."

"This person was good at throwing a baseball. And so, even though he's never been right about anything, let's hear his thoughts on the subject." No, the person you described makes for good tv/radio and that's all most people care about. Not saying I agree with it, but it's true.

Nobody has given him a second chance since ESPN booted him, other than his recurring EEI gig. I don't think Fox Sports would care that he's prone to say the stuff he does if he were actually a worthwhile commentator otherwise. He has a narrow appeal, to the sort of people who are already likely to listen to D&C. That doesn't mean anything he says should be repeated outside of those circles, or taken as fact or even the opinions of a sane person. He's a crazy old man who happens to have been good at baseball at one time.

And I think I just saw Pete Rose doing the All-Star game pregame, adding pretty much nothing. I'm sure Schilling will get another job eventually.

Well.. If he talked as nutty the other way and said as many stupid things as Olberman has over the years.. Jobs would keep lining up for him would they not?
Then saying and doing stupid things has always been the right of the left.. Hasn't it?
Love it when Boston fans and media keep trashing on Schilling after he retired, all at the same time they were regarding him as a hero when he delivered for them so many times a bit over a decade ago.

I can appreciate Mike Tyson's in-the-ring-dominance without, you know, going to him for advice on how to take a girl out on an ideal first date. I think the Schilling criticism (regarding his social/political views) is a bit excessive, but I find a number of things he says very stupid. That has nothing to do with the fact that, roaring at the pinnacle of my lung capacity as I stood in the bleachers in RF and he walked out to warm up (stopping to look up because we were SO loud) before game 2 of the '04 series, is one of a small handful of my life's best memories. If your view of people, and the world around you is so devoid of nuance, well, I think that's sad.

Ok, so a while ago (back when Curt was still pitching for the Sox!) I had an on-line back and forth with him @ The Remy Report (where we were both registered members at the time) about politics. Safe to say both Curt and I do not see eye to eye on almost everything political. But he didn't get upset with me nor I with him over it. And I still respected him as an athlete and a competitor to the utmost, and told him that.
This has nothing to do with Schill's politics and everything to do with a great number of ill advised things (that is as polite as I can get) about other issues.

I didn't realize the Sox drafted Curt, can they sign him and still get Groome?

Can Curt Schilling get his own thread? This is what I was actually talking about earlier when I said people like him make for interesting tv/radio. Somebody like Alex Speier says something and it's about what he said. Schilling does his thing and there are several posts about him. Controversial figures can draw more attention to something than well respected ones. Do I agree with it? No. Is it true? yup.

I was hoping that he could get his own thread so people could talk about him there rather than here.

As far as the bolded part goes, it's because Boston fans can hold two thoughts in our heads at once. Yes, his behavior is cartoonish and yes he was also a hero. OJ Simpson is a skunk and probably even a murderer. But you do acknowledge that he was a tremendous football player, don't you? It's not that complicated. On Groome, it sounds like it's a lock now and most of us didn't have much doubt all along. Both sides had great incentive to get a deal done. I just wish it could have happened faster so that he'd have had the last few weeks starting his progression in the organization. Looking forward to seeing him and Espinoza rise through the system together.

The 2018 Campaign, whence Mr. Schilling attempts to flush more money from various conservative SuperPACS and ne'er-do-wells down the toilet than he did from the 2008 Red Sox and citizens of Rhode Island combined. Does he have to re-establish residency in Massachusetts after his race-to-the-bottom scam in Rhode Island fell through?

Does he have to re-establish residency in Massachusetts after his race-to-the-bottom scam in Rhode Island fell through? Did he ever move to Rhode Island? I kinda doubt it ... he just took RI's money from the comforts of his MA home, I'd guess. That's a pretty good line about flushing money down the toilet, though! I'm gonna steal it if he ever gets more serious about running

Lynching journalists is a funny joke. I met Curt Schlling in (I want to say 1986) during a rain delay in Charlestown. He had a lot of convictions, even back then. We talked family. Mostly about our Fathers (both of whom died from cancer in 1988). His goal (dream) was to have his Father watch him pitch at Fenway. My goal was to have a faster car than my Dad. (I have Detroit steel in my genes). One thing we shared in common was our "bluntness". I was so happy that he beat back the demons that possessed him after the loss of his Father. I did not follow his "celebrity" career after he retired. I was happy that he had brought a championship to the Red Sox. I cannot help but draw comparisons between Curt and ted Williams. If there is an afterlife I want to have a conversation with Curt and Ted, and not just about baseball.
