Moncada singles off a lefty and then is brought home on a two run double by Benintendi. Stank had a miserable third inning, but his offspeed stuff has been getting plenty of swings and misses.

What on earth is up with CJ Chatham? Now 0 for 16. You have to think part of it was rust, part is poor luck. You just do not expect a college player to struggle like that in the GCL, even despite the layoff.
Not worried or anything. Just weird as hell.

Two more strikeouts for Moncada. Definitely some adjustments he needs to make.

He played four games in five days from the 15th to 19th, then sat until yesterday, so it seems possible something is physically wonky still.

Lorenzo Cedrola 2 for 3 with a double so far. Now 18 for 37 in his last 10. Starting to get excited about Cedrola and Tyler Hill. Two young outfielders having really good seasons! Those guys may really move up in the rankings.

Lorenzo Cedrola 2 for 3 with a double so far. Now 18 for 37 in his last 10. The kid seems to have good instincts in center and a cannon for an arm from the 2 throws I saw. One that went from center (after catch to cutoff man between 2nd and 3rd) That was especially strong and on target IMO. His swing looked level, with slight uppercut, not overly long. Would really like to see one of the main scouting guys get a longer look at him and watch from behind the box. I generally don't from that angle.

His hand is still bothering him.. Maybe should have pm'd instead of posting.. Had fairly long conversation with CJ in Sarasota after game when he went down swinging one AB with bases loaded. I was yelling "let's get that 1st pro hit" every AB he came up the 4 days was there. Mentioned that to him also if it bothered.. Of course he said it didn't matter, but looked at hand and said it was still bothering him. He wasn't playing entire games then and noticed hand would be wrapped when he came out in dugout during games he came out. Please feel free to delete this if it's something should have pm'd like the other.

What's Daniel McGrath's stuff like? He's got decent numbers, but he's not top 60. Has his fastball improved?

Another outfield assist for Benintendi If he plays the wall well he could gun down some guys stretching for doubles at Fenway

A case could be made that the guy who has been real solid this year is Dubon. An 819 OPS in AA now, after solid A ball. Probably hasn't played a lot of baseball. 26th round pick who seems to me to be surprising. From the numbers he doesn't look to me to necessarily project as a utility guy.

Dubon came to the US at the start of high school to play baseball specifically, so development-wise he's probably at the same point any 22-year-old drafted out of high school would be. That said, he's having a very impressive year. His teammates also love him - even if the talent does top out he should get extra chances to stick, and he could probably have a long career as a coach when that point ends.

Dubon's ISOp in Portland actually is a lot higher than I'd have guessed, but it's telling that he's yet to hit his first home run this season. There's doubles power and then there's not having enough power to keep MLB pitchers from throwing him pitches in the zone and daring him to do anything with them. He'll have to show the former in order to stick in MLB, I think, and more than that to be more than a utility guy.
I usually lead the "Salem suppresses power" charge, but that he had the good old OBP-higher-than-SLG line there gives me a little worry. Gun to my head, I'd bet he has a future as a useful bench infielder though.

Dubon has had a pretty big uptick in strikeout rate in Portland (19.3%, compared to 9% in Salem). It's still really early (119 PAs), but something to watch. With his lack of power, he needs to be his historical contact-making machine to hit enough to be a major league asset.

A question I have (and cant look up the answer to) is whether or not he can handle high velocity. If he can't handle high velo, he's going to get pounded with fastball's in the zone given his lack of power, and his OBP will suffer. That being said, everyone seems to love him so I'm really rooting for him. Hoping he's our next Cora/Holt type.

I briefly forgot he wasn't a pitcher and was real pleased that it looked like he'd gone deep in two outings without giving up a run.
