Given the Red Sox's concerns with the health of Mike Napoli, I have come up with an outside the box alternative. My proposed trade would send Bryce Brentz, Daniel Bard, Drake Britton, and Travis Shaw to the Cubs for Anthony Rizzo and a B level Prospect.
We'd then shrewdly make Napoli a take it or leave it one year 12.5 million dollar contract. But would promise him prominate time at catcher so he could build up his value for next year. If he said yes we'd then send Salty out in another trade. Or we'd just walk away from Napoli entirely.

Why would the Cubs even consider that deal? They're rebuilding and Rizzo is a key building block with great present performance and high upside. They probably wouldn't trade him unless it was for an established star, and they definitely wouldn't agree to a deal where they don't even get a top prospect in return. Rizzo has become a top-tier prospect and it makes no sense to trade a quarter for four nickels

You couldn't blackmail the Cubs into making that deal if you had conclusive proof that they'd been funneling money to the Taliban.

Cubs need pitching and we have none to spare.
