For whatever it's worth, Salem did win the first half. So they make the playoffs even if they decide to let Tim Tebow bat cleanup the rest of the regular season.

Since we are all anxious to see if Jason Groome will finally debut, is it typical for the Red Sox as an organization to break in high school arms as relievers in the GCL? I was curious to see why they wouldn't have him start the game

Groome has yet to debut either as a starter or reliever. The overriding issue is not whether he begins the game or comes in later. The staff wants to control his number of pitchers. So, even if he starts, he could be pulled after the second or third (or even the first) inning depending on pitch count.
Can't see if there is more pressure in starting or relieving. Look for Groome to start a game soon and play a few innings to get his feet wet in a pro environment.

You've got to love what Ben Taylor has done over his first two years in the system. What's his realistic upside?

I think setup man is his ceiling if he remains a reliever, which is likely. Likw Barnes his secondaries are kind of lacking. Even out of the pen he'll have to improve his change or slider.

Is he really striking out over 30% of the opposition (31.3% in High-A, 35.5% in AA) on the strength of his fastball alone? Honest question, I thought his fastball was decent, but I assumed there was a plus secondary somewhere in his repertoire to maintain those k rates.

I'm not saying they're terrible, but as a good reliever I'd hope for two plus (at least 1 secondary above average) pitches. And I think at his age as a reliever his numbers should look pretty darn good in A-AA if he actually has a good shot at being an above average major league reliever.

Is Jake Romanski another late blooming catcher? Age 25 and hitting well in AA is still a prospect, yes?

So if Steven Wright can't go tonight, why did they let Johnson pitch last night? They absolutely would've known long before game time, since Wright had to go through the whole MRI thing. Both teams are home so it's not like there'd be any issue with having him in Boston in time.

It appears they're instead using it as an excuse to give Buchholz and his mechanical adjustments one more shot at the rotation. He's listed as the starter for Saturday. I'm on board with the move. No need to rush Johnson back into the spotlight and the slight chance of getting back the Dr. Jekyll version of Buchholz is just too tempting.

Really don't understand what people are expecting from Clay. I'll take 4 innings of 2 run ball. Still cant even strike out 6 per 9 out of the pen. xFIP through the roof because he's been lucky enough to not give up a HR as a reliever yet. He's still broken.

Dream scenario (more likely to turn into nightmare) Buccholtz kills it and DD rescinds the deal and gets Neo back.
