Rusney is .394 / .423 / .561 in 71 PA since July 27. It's not all BABIP-driven (.423), either: he's cut his K rate from .164 to .099, which suggests that the harder contact (which includes 2 2B and 3 3B, but no HR) may be partly for real. I'm too busy to look at his game logs to get his GB% ...
Meanwhile, Chris Marrero is up to .288 / .345 / .519. This is the age 27 season of a guy who was considered the best HS bat in the nation before an injury-plagued senior year, was "stolen" (BA) with the 15 pick, was the 27 / 28 (BA / BP) prospect in baseball (with BA talking about his being a lineup fixture at age 20) and then had his career seemingly torpedoed by injuries. If this season is for real, he could absolutely be the short side of a big league 1B platoon (BP has him as an average defender) -- if there were room for more than 4 or 5 guys on a big league bench. Expanding rosters to 28 is the simplest and most justifiable thing MLB could do to improve the game.

Jake Cosart is now at 7.2 1 0 0 1 15 in 3 games at Portland. Salem, no? He and Kopech are potential MLB bullpen additions for next year -- all the more reason to only add one major bullpen arm this winter.
