Inexplicable trade. Whether you like Light or not. Trading a minor leaguer with no control for a lefty one-out guy is fine. Letting the lefty one-out guy face Matt Wieters? What? Of the 22 batters Abad has faced since the trade, 14 have been right-handed. They are 5 for 12 with two walks. Lefties are only 2 for 7. And yeah, one of those two hits was a home run, but it was also hit by Robinson Cano who is at least a borderline Hall of Famer. Criticizing Farrell is getting really tiring. I think a lot of the stuff gets ridiculous - like the stuff about him not having a reliever ready to replace Kimbrel after two or three hitters the other night. No other manager would have someone warming behind their closer and/or best reliever. But it seems like almost every night there's something obvious, and he makes mistakes that I really don't feel like the average manager makes. Letting Pomeranz face Davis last night, letting Abad face Wieters tonight? Forget Joe Maddon... I don't think, like, Clint Hurdle or whoever the most generic manager I can think of does that.

Can we make Mookie a player-coach? Can we try him in the bullpen?

I wasn't joking when I said Betts would be a top 5 MVP candidate this season. Legend!

The point is, Abad is hardly an upgrade over Layne. Now Farrell thinks he got an upgrade and is bringing in Abad more than he used be bring in Layne. Either don't trade for Abad or let Farrell know exactly how to use him. Or, you know, just get rid of Farrell.

Mookie Betts has very loudly become this team's best player in the last month or two.

I wasn't joking when I said Betts would be a top 5 MVP candidate this season. Legend! He's certainly adding to the resume almost daily at this point. Since they lineup change he's been on another level. I honestly think he might even be top 3 at this point.

Now they have to get 6 scary outs and Mookie might not bat again. Hold on tight. This is going to be a bumpy ride.

I agree with this, but Abad doesn't really have pronounced splits in his career. He's a bad pitcher that shouldn't have been used there, but I don't think he should be used as a LOOGY either. It was not a bad trade at the time because the price was so low, but I don't see a point on insisting with Abad at this point.

Mookie BABIP: .315 Mookie BA: .315 This is the scary thing - given Mookie's skillset, his BABIP might actually be a tad low. Yet he's still putting together a hell of a case for 2016 MVP. The only thing Trout has on him this year is walks and reputation. And granted, you can't just shove a .400+ OBP under the rug like it doesn't matter; it does. But Mookie has been special.

It's a mystery what D-Dom was thinking in dumping Layne for Bad. For a guy who loves to buy Jaguars, he certainly does buy some jalopis.

Mookie BABIP: .315 Mookie BA: .315 That's about as good a measure of how hard he hits the ball as anything I could imagine. Got up to look for a little dinner, came back to that grin in the dugout... and a lead again. Not much left to say at this point.
