No better way to close out the regular season than to celebrate a division clinch on this field. None. Zero. Nada. Zilch. Niente.
Make it so.

Yankee starters are Cessa, Mitchell, and Sabathia.
Sox Win Efficiency up to -7.4, which means they've been +3.0 to +3.5 in September.

The yanks probably cannot help us with a win against Toronto tonight given their weak pen, so we may as well crush them in games 1 and 2,

My prediction is that we take 2 out of 3 at least - possible sweep. I'd love to see the offense really catch fire a few times - we need a bit of a bump to get to 900 runs.
I just noticed that the actual record is finally approaching the Pythagorean number - 92-64 vs 96-60.

Remaining Strength of Schedule. Watch the Tigers for the second WC; they play the Indians and the projection below doesn't know about the pitching injuries.
Meanwhile, the Rangers' schedule continues (on paper) to offset how much better we are than them. They're hosting the Brewers and then the Rays. However, home field versus the Indians is probably just as easy as against the W/C, while the W/C will have a solid chance to beat the Rangers. Second seed is more important than first seed, and that seems to be in the bag.
Tm Opp GR HG SoS Qual Pro W Bal .547 6 0 .595 .546 87.7 Tor .587 7 4 .580 .587 89.5 Cle .510 7 0 .560 .574 93.6 Bos .547 6 3 .547 .655 95.7 Det .505 7 4 .498 .538 86.8 Hou .480 6 3 .480 .513 85.2 Sea .476 7 4 .469 .519 85.8 Tex .484 6 6 .435 .517 95.5 BP has the O's 64.3%, Tigers 26.5%, while FG has it 67.2% to 26.8%.
BP has us 95.4 wins, Rangers 95.2, while FG has it 95.3 to 95.4.
For the W/C game, it'll be Liriano or Stroman versus Tillman, but if the last game of the year is meaningless for the Blue Jays, they'd hold Sanchez back. Toronto would then have Estrada, Happ, Sanchez (or Liriano / Stroman) lined up, while the O's have a mess: anyone other than Gausman or Tillman for games 1 and 3 with Gausman in game 2 (unless they want Tillman in game 3 on 3 days rest).
Tigers would have Fulmer for a W/C game, and probably Norris, Verlander, and Zimmerman (who is scheduled to start the last Saturday after three strong innings in relief yesterday). Matt Boyd got nobody out yesterday, while Sanchez has been bumped from the rotation in favor of Buck Farmer (first start of the year) and then Zimmerman.

The Rangers scare me the least of any of the teams, really, at least in a five game series. Cleveland would have trouble in seven games, but I don't really want the Sox to get them in a short series when Kluber can go twice. Baltimore and Toronto ... meh, anyone can win a short series, but the Sox have proven they can beat both of them.
The Sox are the best team in the AL, and I'm not sure it's all that close right now. Which doesn't mean they'll win the playoffs, but it's all you can ask for going in.

Which doesn't mean they'll win the playoffs, but it's all you can ask for going in. The only team that scares me in the ALDS / ALCS is the Blue Jays. They've got the lineup and good starters. The Tigers dream of clinching the 2nd W/C early so that Verlander can pitch the W/C game and Fulmer can start twice in the ALDS, but that's unlikely. It's hard to stress how important the Blue Jays / O's series in Toronto will be to the shape of the post-season, and how interesting the combinations are. The Blue Jays are looking to put so much distance between them and the second W/C that the final game of the year becomes moot, so that they can start Sanchez in the W/C game. However, if they crush the O's too completely, they may end up facing the Tigers with Fulmer! (And there's still a 12% - 15% chance that the Mariners or Astros are the second W/C. I'm not looking at their rotations until their odds go up.) Gausman vs. Sanchez Tillman vs. Liriano Jimenez vs. Stroman

So if Toronto beats mfy tonight, lose 2 to balt, we will clinch the division, then rest our starters against tor, tor should wrap up the wc, balt has a good chance for the second wc. Good plan.

Things are not calm and cool in Toronto: 3 HBP already and Girardi has been ejected.

Severino barely nicks Donaldson's elbow, and the Blue Jays go nuts about it? Such bull**** I'm glad the Red Sox are gonna clinch over those clowns soon.

Kluber 60 pitches, 4IP. We're working Porcello hard, Cleveland is resting Kluber? I may yet join the fire F bandwagon.

Donaldson clearly wasn't hit intentionally and the Jay's retaliated by intentionally hitting Headley. Even though only Yanks were thrown out, this was clearly the doings of the Jays.

Even though only Yanks were thrown out, this was clearly the doings of the Jays. The umpire should have put an end to it by throwing Happ out after hit Headley. The first pitch was behind Headley and Happ finally hit him with the second pitch. When it's that intentional, you don't need to issue warnings. If he would have thrown Happ out, the MFYs probably don't hit Smoak.

Thanks amfox1, is there a amfox2? Yanks up 5-3, lets see if they can put a few more, or if their pen can hold a lead. it is so strange rooting for the yanks tonight. some commented that tx had an easy schedule this week, apparently not as easy as they would like?

I am willing to trade home field for an appropriately rested price and Porcello. No high pitch count outings. Ok, home field would be nice.
