“it’s a good sign knowing that I have four plus offerings.” - JG. Seems the young man disagrees wholeheartedly with Ian and your assessments. If Groome had four plus pitches he'd be the best pitching prospect in baseball. Love his confidence as well but he's not sitting here making an actual objective analysis. I accept that: best pitching prospect in baseball. Exciting!

Since his name was brought up in the GameDay thread, how has Groome looked so far in limited action? Any return of his stuff pre-injury or does he still look like a guy whose ceiling is a 4/5 if everything breaks right?

Love this guy's potential, but I think he needs more reps in the minors. This appraisal on my part is based solely on the number of innings he's thrown since he came back from TJ. Everyone's different but most successful examples show guys usually need 2/3s to a full season to see who they are now (as a pitcher, not as an individual).

After 2 years and 8 months compiling 27 games and 110.2 innings, I don't think we're going to see much change from him as a TJ bounce back.

^ This. Plus all of the innings thrown at the alt site in 2020.
If his stuff is down right now it's because it's April in Portland, but it's not recovery from Tommy John.

April in New England = crappy weather….. It may be effecting Groome, but it sure has not effected the other 4 starting pitchers in Portland😀

It just also wouldn't be the first time.

Groome has also had one excellent start, one disastrous start, and one pretty good start. He's been worse than his rotation mates, but it's because he had a bad game and the rest of them have not.
