There's no reason for Kendrick to be on the team until he has to make a start.

Signed as a senior for a $10k bonus. As Ian said, great find by Danny Watkins.

Yeah, I only caught a few of the spring games but I did watch him pitch twice and I liked what I saw. He keeps the ball down, he seems to know where it's going, and it does stuff. Good stuff. You never know where the next find will be. He's certainly been showing the same K chops right up the line. I imagine he'll spend a few games with the team and then try to make his bones in AAA. But looks as if he's arrived.

Red Sox are due for a player to pop from out of nowhere to being a bullpen ace; hopefully it's Ben Taylor. I feel like every good team ever has one of these guys. However, someone has some explaining to do——why wasn't he drafted by the third round?

someone's got some explaining to do. Huh? It was a veiled shot at his prospect ranking, but meant in total jest. Everyone does a wonderful job on this site. No malice intended.

He made the roster as a middle reliever. I'm not sure what there is to explain, really. I know you're kidding, but it's just that I'm not sure there's anything to even kid about. BA had him at 21. We have him at 22. Sickels probably copied one of us and had him ranked similarly. His stock is up, but it's not like his projection or ceiling have changed a bit. He just got to the main roster quicker than expected. Let's see how he does. As I posted on Twitter when news broke he'd made the club, we were on Taylor when he was in Greenville and nobody else had ever even heard of him. Frankly, I see us as being out in front on Taylor and ahead of the pack, rather than behind the curve or something as the joke would imply.

We might add that picking relievers out of the crowd is a bit of a fool's game, but his page did make a point of highlighting the good things: The fastball gains from moving to the bullpen held (see below), so it's not surprising he showed well enough to get a shot what with an open spot on the roster, and his spring training showing: Year | Age | AgeDif | Tm | Lg | Lev | Aff | W | L | W-L% | ERA | RAvg | G | GS | GF | CG | SHO | SV | IP | H | R | ER | HR | BB | IBB | SO | HBP | BK | WP | BF | WHIP | H9 | HR9 | BB9 | SO9 | SO/W |

Provided by Baseball-Reference.com: View Original TableThe next thing to watch for is that put-away secondary option, so we should keep an eye out for that. Or maybe the strong command and control profile...to go with the ...heavy pitch that shows arm-side run and finish is all he needs - for now. It will be interesting to find out.

I was attempting to bring levity to the situation, and I knew when i posted it, it was problematic. I think it is great news that someone is making their mark in this way, particulary a pitcher, no matter if relief. This is the only Sox site I participate in, and i will reiterate that you guys do a wonderful job.

I predict that Taylor sticks with the big club for if you look at his stuff, i.e., drop & drive w/rising fb, with command; ability to change speeds and enough of a slider /change to give hitters something different to look at. Additionally, other than Hembree / Kimbrel / Barnes, the rest of the staff is shaky.
If you watch Taylor last year and throw out the 1 bad inning, i.e., 4 earns runs after a long road trip, his ERA was around 1.50 ish. The kid can pitch... good luck to him

The humor is in the fallacy that he's mis-ranked, not in the actual mis-ranking (which as noted, is a fallacy which some people will humorously believe). <light chuckle> Regardless, great for the kid and great for those in charge here to have seen it in him. Hopefully it's also great for the Sox down the line. Even if he turns out to be a serviceable shuttle-rider, that's a valuable asset, but here's hoping he really breaks to mold and turns into much more!

I hope Taylor dominates so we can all make "how'd you miss this guy?" Jokes all year...
