Ouch. Let's hope Ubaldo is off his game. I trust Wright will calm things down and pitch well from here out

So, any word on how Price's bullpen went today?

Wright's game score was -15. Kudos to anyone who can find the last Sox starter to do worse than that....

This blog (which is now about 7 years old) says it was the 11th worst start in the history of baseball, second worst start in Red Sox history (behind Howard Ehmke's -34 thrown in 1923), and tied for the second worst start since 1936.

Joe Kelly reminds me a lot of Allen Webster. Then again, Yugoslavian automobiles from the1990s remind me of Allen Webster.

Added to the frustration of watching Wright gack-up 7 runs in less than two innings is that the Sox have been just a hit or two away on a few occassions of making this a 2 or 1 run lead by Balt or even pressing them for a tie. So hard to watch the team leave men at third or have multiple men on in scoring positions with one or fewer outs and get nothing.
Baseball.

The bloom seems to have come off the knuckleball. We watched Tim Wakefield for how many years? He had 20 starts in his career where he allowed eight or more runs - so, roughly one per season. Some days the pitch just doesn't work, and we should know better than to write off someone who now has a couple years of success because of one disastrous start.

Getting real sick of Joe Kelly. This isn't sarcasm like I meant with the Sam Travis promotion for Moreland either.
I legitimately don't think Kelly is a MLB calibre pitcher. The Sox have tried every role for him. Starter or bullpen, it doesn't matter he's still the same old Joe Kelly who can't pitch all that well.
You can deal with Wright having a clunker, especially against a team that is hard to keep in the ballpark in the Orioles but Kelly seems to have 1 good game and 5 clunkers there after. His "blazing" fastball doesn't fool anyone, he gives up constant hard contact, and he can never regularly find the strike zone.
I'll be ticked off if Ben Taylor gets optioned down instead of Kelly because he threw 66 pitches in yesterday's game. Robbie Ross Jr is set to come off the DL tomorrow. I'd rather have Taylor rest for two days on the bench and have him available 3 days from now then to see Kelly ever.
I'm really at the point where I want to see Kelly removed from the 40 man roster all together. Give his spot on the 40 man to Jamie Callahan or Chandler Shephard. Anyone but Kelly. You'd save over a million on the CBT by doing this because some team would likely take a chance on him. I don't see any potential in this guy. I think if the Sox don't take him off the 40 man roster now, that they're just delaying the inevitable. Joe Kelly isn't long for this roster. I would bet my house on it. End rant.

It seems clear to me that Ross is going to take Abad's spot. Maddox began the year in Portland in what seemed like an assignment designed to stash maximum depth, but was moved up to Pawtucket on 4/9 on a day when there was no clear reason for him to move up - in fact, Noe Ramirez was optioned down from MLB on that day. It seems to me like that was the point at which they decided Abad was the one to go - Maddox essentially took the spot they were keeping warm for Taylor in Pawtucket.
EDIT: And just like that, Taylor optioned (it actually does make sense given his usage yesterday). I think Abad has 10 days to make himself useful, however.

Kelly will be fine and valuable plus DD wants a power pen. He's not going anywhere IMO. Let the Sox work to increase his spin rate and movement.

Kelly has zero control in and out of the strike zone. He hasn't really shown a lot of value anywhere. He's a fringe roster player at this point.

I believe that you will find otherwise over the season's course. The guy has the proverbial 'great arm'...which you work with until or unless finally it proves fruitless. The Sox are still in.
