I believe that you will find otherwise over the season's course. The guy has the proverbial 'great arm'...which you work with until or unless finally it proves fruitless. The Sox are still in. He has yet to prove to be "fruitful" other than a few short sample sized stretches in his 3+ years here. He's been mediocre since joining Boston overall. There are plenty of guys in this league with "great arms," the only thing that matters is results and Kelly yet to have that in Boston.

His results are nowhere near as bad as you think they are to the point where literally anyone is better than him. That's ridiculous.

He's faced 22 batters this season. I think that's plenty of time to make complete judgments on the long term quality of work. I just play indexed every pitcher ever on baseball reference, and no pitcher has ever had a 22-batter stretch where they walked three and struck out one and gave up two runs. Unprecedented poor performance.

I'm not judging his results on this season alone. Joe been mediocre since he has been here.
We will keep playing the Joe Kelly wait and see game, but I think most of you will be disappointed in the end. He isn't a very good pitcher in the big leagues.

He was quite good after moving to the bullpen last year. Not a huge sample, but enough, along with his stuff, to keep him above Austin Maddox on the depth chart for a couple months.
For what it's worth, it would be sort of impossible for me to end up disappointed with Joe Kelly in the end.

Alright fair enough, but I am not holding my breath on this wild card named Joe Kelly. I just hope Farrell avoids putting him in high leverage situations for the moment.
That Lackey trade was just the worst. So I know what you mean when you said you can't really be disappointed at this point with Kelly.

Joe Kelly as a reliever with the Boston Red Sox (2015-17): 23.0 IP, 8.6 K/9, 3.1 BB/9, 47.5% GB, 1.57 ERA, 2.80 FIP, 3.38 SIERA. Joe Kelly as a reliever with the Pawtucket Red Sox (2016): 20.0 IP, 13.5 K/9, 1.4 BB/9, 1.35 ERA, 0.64 FIP.

Very small sample. One of these games Kelly will probably self destruct and see all most of those numbers implode. We will see. All it takes is one bad game or two and we have seen that from Kelly a lot while he was starting.
I remember when Kelly had the same number of innings and great numbers in August of 2015 as a starter too. The guy is a tease. Just warning you.
