Then why does he struggle with high pitch counts? Generally, not enough pitching to contact. Prior to today, 10.1 IP 3BB 15K, including walking the first two batters he faced in the year. Today 5.1 IP 2BB 4K. He was behind in the count all day which hasn't been typical.

Did you guys think that was uncalled for by Machado?

Did you guys think that was uncalled for by Machado? Intentional or not, that slide did not seem to comport with the stipulations of the rule as I understand it.

Just for the record, when Pedroia was injured ... the alternative was move Betts to 2B and send Selsky to RF.
glad that Selsky and Pablo are so versatile, however.

Am I the only one that thinks DD grabs another bat before the deadline?

I'm starting to think of just tuning in on days Sale pitches.

Did you guys think that was uncalled for by Machado? I don't think it was intentional but the rule has nothing to do with intent. I just hope Pedroia is OK.

Am I the only one that thinks DD grabs another bat before the deadline? He is probably looking at that. I think that the bats will probably come around. Is it possible Devers could be the answer by July? Honestly, what position would be the upgrade? Tough questions. It still is early, hopefully the guys pick up the pace a bit. A quick check shows it is really just the power (homeruns - last in majors) that is lacking. They are getting on base (2nd in the majors). There are guys with power pedigree on the club, things should improve in that category.

OK, I'll say it - at this point last season Ortiz had 12 hits of which 8 were doubles and 3 were HRs. He was a hall of fame-level offensive player. They have some nice pieces here and it's early but that was not replaced. Mitch Moreland has 21 hits including 11 doubles and a homer. He is not an Ortiz replacement, but Betts, Xander, and Hanley have not started hitting for power yet.

I have said several times that Papi was more important than his stellar stats and that the Sox would find out to their dismay. I think that we will score at least 100 runs less this year. We are 10-7 but with only a +1 run differential. Without Sale & Kimbrel....not so hot. Maybe put Beni down in the order for a start to take some pressure off. Doesn't Moreland have 11 doubles (ML.league) leadinf AL in RBI with a HR) What were we supposed to sign? Joey Votto?

Machado has 3 or maybe 4 instances of dirty. I won't call it outright dirty, I will call it Bush League, uncalled for and overall just like how I would thought Machado would react. He is the captain and heart and soul of our team at an important defensive position
I expect retaliation in the form of a Ben Taylor fastball in the back, ribs or maybe even the nice but I'm afraid he'll start throwing bats at Ben Taylo.
Side note: Machado fish or is either a dirty player or he's the kind of guy who is involved in dirty plays and then acts like he tried to didn't heard anybody even though he's slid in late with his spikes up

Am I the only one that thinks DD grabs another bat before the deadline? Except for third base, what position would he target. The outfield won't be changed. Unless Hanley really craps the bed, he will DH. Moreland is doing okay right now. Barring injuries I don't see where he would go. Frazier from the White Sox for some low minors filler?

Right now it's our $200M duo of Hanley and Pablo that is under performing. Ben, I wished you hadn't done it.
I like the Moreland signing. $5.5M for 1 year. No prolonged risk, fits nicely into our budget.
Really, really like the Sale trade. Gave up a lot but we got a keeper. No matter what happens, at least we know what a great pitcher looks like.

From 2014-2016 he's 22nd worst in baseball with a 3.37 BB/9. Those are bad numbers. I don't really know how not pitching to contact is a good excuse. So is your argument is he's got really good control he's just choosing to not throw strikes to avoid contact?

I hope Machado gets drilled tonight. He is almost as smarmy as Arod back in the day. Intent or not, Machado needs to get one in the ribs.

I don't know if it makes sense, and I don't know what to do with Pedroia, but I like X in the leadoff spot in this lineup. I think we see a guy who is willing to give up power for contact, can steal some bases and is young. The question is does he strikeout to much and where do you put Pedroia.
