Greenville up by 1/2 game, So winner literally will be in 1st place after tonight's game. Outside of Greenville, there are some Shawaryn, Ball, & Beeks on the mound tonight. All worth keeping an eye on.
Salem has 2 game lead over Lynchburg, but no head to head matchups remaining.
ADD: 1st half ends Sunday.

Unbelievable that this guy still pitches professionally (nothing against the guy himself). There's something to be said for being able to put up a low-4.00's ERA at Triple-A without getting hurt and being a good enough dude that people want you around. Teams generally don't have enough actual prospects to eat all of the innings you need to eat at Triple-A, and pitchers who outright stink will get eaten alive.

From 108 Stitches:
PawSox outfielder Bryce Brentz is arguably the hottest hitter in the Red Sox system right now. He went 2-for-4 with a homer and walk on Wednesday, his third straight multi-hit game and his fifth in his last 10 contests. He’s hitting .333/.423/.689 with five homers in 13 games this month, along with more walks (7) than strikeouts (6), a particularly noteworthy development for a player who has struggled to stay off breaking balls out of the strike zone. Brentz’s 12 homers through 51 games this year match his total in Pawtucket in 113 combined games with the PawSox in 2015-16.

Any news on the rehab of Dalbec and Chatham? Chatham sounds like he will be out for awhile longer, CBS Sports said indefinitely. But Dalbec has been on the DL for a month now with hand and wrist soreness. I understand making sure that a power hitter has strong wrists, but is this a more significant problem than it first appeared?

IIRC Alex Speier reported that Dalbec has a wrist surgery so he'll be out for a while.

To my knowledge, Christopher Acosta hasn't seen any action for the DSL squad. Should we assume his Red Sox minor league career is over at this point?

Rough outing for Trey Ball this afternoon Is he the next candidate to switch to a RP role? Or does he have no hope on the mound? Maybe a change of scenery or a Colby Rasmus/Rick Ankiel experiment?

I'd definitely try him out of the bullpen before trying him in the OF, and if it were up to me, I'd be making that conversion sooner than later.

Roldani Baldwin's OTHER solo home run was also pretty good news. Pretty impressive to have 13 hits, two of which were home runs, and yet only score two runs. That's some bad sequencing/timing/luck/clutchiness.

if you were Rusney Castillo, would you offer to forgo the remaining $43M of your contract (6M this year, another 37M 18-20) in order to get a shot at playing at the MLB level? or perhaps playing at a reduced salary?

It's not like Castillo will never play in MLB again. But for luxury tax concerns, he'd probably have been called up this year already (in place of Selsky), and there's a good chance that he's the MLB fourth outfielder as soon as next year.

Do you think? 18:$11M, 19:$11M, 20:$13.5M is an awful lot for a 4th outfielder. I guess in theory that's less than the Young-Moreland-Abad contracts that come off the books next year, and if you figure you replace those three with Rusney-Travis-minimumsalaryRP, then it's a wash, but the commitment for three years is tough. That said, if he sucks, you outright him again, right?
