Is Hosmer completely untouchable? How about a package like Jackie Bradley Jr./Ryan Kalish/Keury De La Cruz. Would love to substitute Brentz for JBJ, but I doubt that would create much interest on KC's part.

Not sure a three outfielder package would get it done. What would KC's motives be for moving Hosmer? Especially moving him at the lowest value in a cost controllable contract?
I think it would take win now pieces and suitable replacement.

Meant to put Aceves or Morales in there too, not like either one is a game changer but either could be a #5 starter for KC this year. I think the trade would be geared mostly towards KC competing next year. That should be 3 cost controlled major league pieces for them with one having a shot at being a star at a premium position.

The biggest problem with most trade proposals is that no GM is willing to trade a quarter for three nickels and a half-dozen pennies. That certainly applies here.

Jackie Bradley > Eric Hosmer
Consider Hosmer's defense. He would have to be one of the best hitters in the game to be a 3-4 WAR player which is the gap i see JBJ falling into. No way.

Jackie Bradley > Eric Hosmer In other words, Fantasy > Reality. (also, WAR continues to be a bad, reductive stat)

The issue is, those players you are surrendering to help KC for next year, are the players who are supposed to help usi for next year.

KC is also building for this year, with Dayton Moore pretty clearly on the hot seat. Why would he ever trade one of his starters for prospects?

Maybe try a Jon Lester + Brentz and see if that gets it done..... But I probably wouldn't want to punt on this season and trading Lester or Buch would be punting on 2013 (unless you were getting a top flight starter back).
I'd figure KC should be able to win the central (or a wildcard) with Lester and Shields in the rotation

Jackie Bradley > Eric Hosmer In other words, Fantasy > Reality. (also, WAR continues to be a bad, reductive stat) I agree Hosmer is worth more than Bradley at the moment. He is young and was a top prospect. But what about last season makes you think he is good? Taking out the defensive metrics, which are ugly, he got on base 304 and slugged 359. Fangraphs Woba of 291. He also had 598 PA so it is not small sample. His offense was close to that of Aviles.

Hosmer has proven absolutely nothing. He can't field for shit, and in his good season he has a 114 wRC+. Even if he becomes a .300 hitter with 20 HRs he'd still be worth a lot less than Bradley playing stellar defense hitting .265 and getting on base at a .360 clip.
Half of Hosmer's value comes from him being a great prospect, the only difference between him and Bradley is that he has a more projectable body and has already disappointed one year on the field.

ALL of Bradley's value comes from being a prospect. Not as good a prospect as Hosmer was, I might add. But yeah, having seen Hos struggle at the major league level, it's totally safe to assume that JBJ is automatically going to be awesome when he comes up.

Eric Hosmer has more PAs in the majors than Bradley has in his whole career, anywhere. And he's six months older than Bradley. But we're SURE Bradley's floor is higher? Really? Failing as a major leaguer at 22 is far more impressive than crushing Low-A at 22.

Actually if KC is competitive in its division and we aren't, and Hosmer is hitting like a 22-year-old and Napoli has an 850-880 OPS, we could trade Napoli and a reliever for him this July.

Hosmer was pretty awful last year, but that was despite (a) a low BABIP, (b) an undiagnosed rotator cuff injury, and (c) being a lanky 22-year-old. He's never going to be a great defender, but if his BABIP bounces back and his walk/strikeout numbers remain stable, he's already a .280 AVG/.350 OBP guy who is young enough to see his power jump from the 20-25 HR range he's at already. I'm as much of a JBJ fan as anyone, but you've got homer glasses on if you think he's a better prospect than Hosmer.

He needs to get bigger, and when he does, there's a good chance he'll be a DH. I don't think his bat will ever outweigh his glove, and unless he's an elite hitter at DH he won't be too valuable. JBJ's patience and glove are givens, so yes I believe his floor is higher than the floor we just saw from Hosmer last year, though he was one of the unluckiest players in the MLB.

His bat certainly isn't. I mean, look at how Hosmer's bat projected, and look how much he's struggled against MLB pitching. But Bradley is somehow guaranteed to hit? Wishcasting of the highest order.

Well contact wise Hosmer hasn't really disappointed, but BABIP screwed him. You're completely right saying Bradley isn't guaranteed in regards to his bat, but his bat really doesn't to be all that good like Hosmer's does. That was my point. Why trade multiple specs (one of which being your 2/3rd best) for a former top prospect who hasn't panned out yet and who you know will already always be a defensive liability?
