Marrero has been handling lefties. He has a future as a utility man you can spot against lefties. That's more than I thought he'd have going into this season.

that was the kind of inning we have seen from Sale lately. He seem to lose command. I know Eric was discussing the regression during the season, but I feel it is just a location issue. He is throwing the ball well tonight.

On the Oriole's broadcast, Jim Palmer is discussing the great opportunity the Red Sox now have to shorten Sale's start to give him much needed rest.

Excellent game thus far. Exactly what the doctor ordered. A low stress comfortable game where they don't have to overwork Sale but they can rest the pen and be comfortable bringing in Maddox, Hembree, or even Velazquez if the game becomes really, really one-sided. They're off tomorrow so that's additional rest for the bullpen. Things are lining up nicely tonight. And against Buck Showalter and his Orioles..sweet.

Sorry for my ignorance, but can someone tell me what happens if the Red Sox and Yankees finish tied at the end of the regular season? Is there a playoff game to decide who the division champion is?

They play a game to break the tie the day after the regular season ends. Home field is the team with the better head to head record.

Only 82 pitches thru 6, a chance to have a third consecutive low pitch count game.

1 away from 300. Farrell should still pull him and let him get that last strikeout in Fenway in his next start.

It is tempting to have Sale lead off the 8th against Davis, but I imagine that we should be good from here.

Best outcome for this game, quite possibly: Sale is mediocre or bad again but it's rendered moot because Miley is ... Miley. The worst thing that could happen is that Sale is great and therefore they conclude that he does not need extra rest throughout the post-season. There's no reason at all to think that Sale being great tonight, or terrible tonight, has any predictive value for his pitching on regular rest going forward. See the Sale Valid thread for the details. We may need Sale to pitch that final game the way the Yankees opponents have been laying down vs them.
