Best outcome for this game, quite possibly: Sale is mediocre or bad again but it's rendered moot because Miley is ... Miley.
The worst thing that could happen is that Sale is great and therefore they conclude that he does not need extra rest throughout the post-season.
There's no reason at all to think that Sale being great tonight, or terrible tonight, has any predictive value for his pitching on regular rest going forward.
See the Sale Valid thread for the details.

RED SOX Xander Bogaerts SS Dustin Pedroia 2B Andrew Benintendi LF Mookie Betts RF Hanley Ramirez DH Sam Travis 1B Deven Marrero 3B Sandy Leon C Jackie Bradley Jr. CF Chris Sale LHP As you may recall from my discussion with PFF, this is the first time Young hasn't started against a LHP this year. I'll agree that it's now clear Travis is being evaluated, at least, for Young's spot on the playoff roster (I still think it's going too far to say with certainty this means he's ahead of him at this point in time). Knowing as we do now the relative struggles of Bogaerts/Betts this season, the little-bit-less-than-hoped-for performance from Benintendi, and the extreme struggles of Hanley, does this even resemble the lineup of a playoff team? And putting Moreland back in the cleanup spot doesn't really help anything either.

sincerely hoping Wade doesn't do us like the last time we faced him.

3-2count. Fastball directly down the middle and Hanley stands there. Joke.
At this point Hanley is just up there collecting ABs hoping to his option vests in 2018.
But no surprise our horrible manager keeps rolling him out there.

That second pitch to Jones was a strike to Hanley.

That's the ONLY time you slide into first base. To avoid the tag> Nice job Marrero.

mercy me. did you guys here OB talking about Raja Davis not stealing last night? Amaro said they didn't want to run into an out. Now, honestly, how could someone say that with a straight face? They have been on record as saying they want to be aggressive on the bases.

I'm not sure how anyone can have any confidence in Farrell anymore.

it would be nice to get Sale some runs. let hime work with a margain for error. That double play is ridiculous. We don't put the ball in the air enough. Simple as that.

Why is it so difficult for the Red Sox to hit Wade Miley? Everybody else does. I hope they don't lose this Sale/Miley matchup and give Miley his 3rd victory against this team.
The Yankees keep winning so the Red Sox have to respond. The hitters need to hit tonight and give Sale some breathing room.

I'll be honest - I was psychologically girding myself for a different outcome than an opposite-field dinger in that Marrero at bat. Not that I'm complaining!
