Here's to Porcello channeling a 2004 Derek Lowe style postseason run.

He's going to be a great DH some day He's 20 years old. Were you the greatest at whatever you were doing by that age? Beer Pong? Probably my prime.

Ok. Great job guys. So does David Price play 2004 Derek Lowe in this postseason? No, he's the Okajima of 2007.

Not sure how I feel about Porcello tomorrow. If he struggles, he'll be out as soon as Fister was. That's what it really comes down to.

Great win!
I’d start Rodriguez tomorrow and have everyone ready

So - if we are rained out tomorrow - Sale on Tuesday?
I was so confident I went to eat dinner and shut down the laptop after the bottom 7 explosion!
Great win...we live to fight another day - at Fenway!

Not sure how I feel about Porcello tomorrow. If he struggles, he'll be out as soon as Fister was. That's what it really comes down to. Unfortunately, coming out down 3-0 in the first doesn't always turn out as well as it did today. If the plan is to make Sale available to relieve Porcello if/when he struggles they should just start him. Porcello has not been good this year and giving up early runs has been a big reason why. Sale may have struggled in a few outings to finish the season - but he has always followed those outings with very good ones. This is a decision they need to rethink, especially if the game is rained out tomorrow... I'm so tired of Farrell simply handing roles and opportunities to vets and being more concerned with offending them than putting the team in the best position to win. It's bad enough in April. This is October. Based on recent results Rodriguez should have started over either Porcello or Fister, let alone pitching either in lieu of Sale... Porcello may rise to the occasion and pitch a gem - I hope to god he does - but it's just as likely (based on this season) he's non-competitive early and puts the team in a big hole that this time they don't climb out of... Sale is your best pitcher. He was traded for to pitch in moments like this. I'd bet on his ability and personality any day. Pomeranz can pitch game five on regular rest. Porcello and Rodriguez can be available to piggy back in either game four or five...

Honestly, I just see Porcello going through the first time through the order (think 3 innings), then Sale will come in.
You have Porcello being piggy backed by Sale in game 4 and Pomeranz piggy backed by Price in game 5, with a rested Kimbrel in both games. I'll take my chances with that.

Rodriguez is the most rested. You start him with a short leash. Porcello would be next but he has to start a clean inning. Everyone except Price is available. Sale you hold if you can.
Also pray for a rainout.

The interesting thing about the Sox roster is that there are 6 starters (if you count Price) and only 5 true relievers: Kimbrel, Smith, Reed, Kelly, and Maddox (think about that for a moment: Maddox was considered 5th in line in the bullpen.) This staff is BUILT for piggybacking -- it's as if the team were afraid of its starters against the Houston lineup and wanted the option of running another starter out in the event the original starter flamed out. If it was deliberately built that way, it was prescient, because one theme of this year's playoffs so far has been the early struggles and short outings of starters, in other series as well as this one.

We could get the 2016 version of Porcello, hopeful. Must say though that I just cant fathom the decision to sit Devers, IMO that shouldnt happen again for a long long time, unless for rest. The Kid is a cold blooded hitter.

Why is the Red Sox game the first game everyday? It would be nice to have one game start after working hours...

Why is the Red Sox game the first game everyday? It would be nice to have one game start after working hours... The ridiculous thing is having to wait for the Indians/Yankees game to end to find out what time the game is tomorrow. If the Yankees win, the Red Sox play at 1pm. If the Indians win, they play at 7pm.

Forecast on Accuweather looks like if it is a 1 PM game, it may be possible - but solid rain from 4 PM until midnight

In the midst of all the joy, boggy still deeply ingrained in his weak hitting and bad approach. He honestly has been the single biggest disappointment that I've had when it comes to things related to the sox in recent years, other than the hiring of dombrowski and his consistent multiple players for one deals. Never wanted to get on boggy for the simple fact that he and I share the same birthday, but he's seriously frustrating You really have to give Xander a break when he has been playing with hurt hands for most of the season. Hitters cannot hit when their hands are hurt. None of them can. Same goes for Mookie in the last few weeks. I've always been and will continue to be a big believer of his abilities. I still trust that he will one day become the kinda hitter we all envisioned him to be, the fact that it hasn't happened is what's frustrating. I hope in the offseason, the player development staff really work with him on his approach, be more aggressive on the first pitch, if it's a pitch in the zone that he thinks he can do damage with, then take a swing at it, cuz a lot of times, the one good pitch to drive in an at bat happens to be the first pitch. I feel like right now when Xander steps into the box, the first pitch becomes a stree free pitch for the opposing pitchers, cuz chances are the scouting reports tell them he won't swing at the first pitch, thus we see a lot of meatball first pitches in his at bats. Secondly, I hope they help tweak his swing a little to improve his launch angle. How is he going to take advantage of his plus bat speed and raw power if he hits everything on the ground? We've already seen many examples of players throughout the league benefited from improved launch angle, I think it will really help Xander realize his power potential as well
