More concerned with the player transactions this offseason, but it’ll be interesting to see which names start to get buzz.
Bumpy ride, but Farrell leaves town as a WS champion.

I hope Dave Martinez gets a strong look. He and Hickey as pitching coach sounds good to me.

A reminder of the downside here. I have to believe that he was brought in to be the sacrificial lamb of what everyone knew was going to be a lost season no matter who the manager was. The prospects for 2018 won't be anything close to as bleak as 2012.

This is such a major moving part to what was going to be a complex off-season already - surely you would want to get a manager in before tinkering with the make up of the team.

Dave Martinez I could really get behind.
I’ve mentioned this once before, but Cora worries me. He’s kind of gimmicky as he’s a former Sox fan favorite. When I’ve seen him as an analyst he really comes off as an eye/gut test guy rather than a guy who’d use the copious amount of data at his disposal. Also, the way he was so confident in Rusney Castillo being a star was a bit perplexing.

A reminder of the downside here. One would hope that the decision to hire that character was a once-in-a-franchise FUBAR decision!

Lot of upside though.

He was a backup infielder over 10 years ago who has interviewed for at least three managerial jobs, managed in Puerto Rico's winter league, and coached for several years including under AJ Hinch (probably the most analyically-inclined manager out there right now). He's far from a gimmick hire. The one thing holding me back with Cora is that he played with Pedroia, and at some point in the future he'll need to be the one making the decision on replacing him. But that's not a qualification issue so much as it's something that the management would need to make sure he's on board with before hiring him. The gimmick hire would be Varitek.

Yeah that would be a super gimmick hire. I don’t think Varitek will get much consideration, especially after DD saw how bad his last hire, Brad Ausmus, ended up doing in Detroit.

With rumored club house issues I'd be hesitant to hire Disarcina.

I mean, there's only one Bobby Valentine folks. It's hard to imagine that the next guy will be as bad as him. He was arguably one of the worst managers in Sox history. Using him as a platform for the downside is really stretching.

I wouldn't hate Chili Davis

I hope all the coaches are gone too. Let the new guy pick his coaching staff.

I wouldn't hate Chili Davis “Our offense underperformed almost across the entire board. Let’s make the hitting coach the manager.” Chili is a fine coach, but I’m not sure I’d even want him back next year in his current capacity. Could be a good time to mix it up IMO.

Meanwhile, the Bentham-ite choice for the forum would be Keith Couch. Couch keeps Don Caballero happy, and "anyone but Farrell" satisfies the rest of us.

It’s going to be Ausmus

Ausmus would just be another Farrell, I don't think Dave would go in that direction.

Sad day for the John Farrell Mad Intangibles Fan Club. Thanks for the excellent work my dude and for that WS win. I'm legit speechless. In a little over one year we lost Farrell and Keith Couch, what am I going to post about? Meanwhile, the Bentham-ite choice for the forum would be Keith Couch. Couch keeps Don Caballero happy, and "anyone but Farrell" satisfies the rest of us. Hey! I hadn't even seen this post but now I'm full on this bandwagon. I doubt the MLB would allow it though, it would be too awesome and it would mess with the competitive balance.
