Your trading for a year of Machado and Balt is getting two young players for at least two years of control. I'd send some lower level prospects too. I'd also be willing to include Micheal Chavis and Erod, probably both.

For one year of Machado they get two prime seasons each and they get E-Rod back for another 5 years and 6 years of Chavis. And the Sox get one year out of Machado and watch him go to NY for huge $? While they would need a CF and a SS? Need a young pitcher and lose their 2nd best prospect? Pass, if I'm the Red Sox.

It's alright guys, he just had a typo. He obviously meant "Paul Goldschmidt."

So basically trade half the team for a guy you could just sign in a year anyway?
I said this on the main forum but again, as great as Machado is, he’s not a great fit for what the Red Sox needs right now. It’s hard to construct a trade that makes sense.

Baltimore is dipping their toe into the water. Great 5 tool player but with only one year of control doubt if any team will bite. My money is on the birds beginning the season with the player and trading him at the deadline.

The Red Sox are supposed to be built to win now but lack a middle of the order bat. This team is poised to break up in a few years. The sox have backed themselves into a corner by going for it all and only putting together a divison contender that can't even get out of the first round of the playoffs. Or come even close really. And now they are probably just a wild card contender with the Yankees clearly passing them. I love Bogearts but he has never developed the power he was expected too. And can't even put together a full season average wise. He is young but only has two years of control left. With the way this team operates I don't expect them to outbid his free agent suitors. If Xander ever becomes a superstar it will be with someone else . I doubt the Os would keep him beyond two years either. Bradley is a good player. But wildly up and down as an offensive player. He is very replaceable, especially if you we re bringing in a superstar. Erod is a bottom of the rotation arm and possible late inning reliever. He isn't indespensible. Much less for a player like Machado. Chavis is probably not much more than an average major leaguer. So no big loss there. I am not even sure if Baltimore will think my proposal is enough. Particularly since Balt wants starting pitching. If the deal does get made.... We could still sign JD and move Benny to CF. You could find an average ss that could get the job done. Its also possible Machado could play SS. But adding his bat to the line up trumps all that. The team with these moves is still much better. Machado could in theory be re-signed by the Sox. But I don't see this FO or ownership re-signing him, sadly. But they have messed things up so much, I think this team will be in a total rebuild in three years. Might as well try and win a World Series to make all the big moves they recently made at lesst mean something.

It's alright guys, he just had a typo. He obviously meant "Paul Goldschmidt." No way this deal is even close to get him. It only has a shot with Manny because he is a year away from free agency, and on a team that rarely makes big free agent signings let alone re-sign their own superstars on the open market. The Red Sox could only get Paul if they trade Devers or Benintendi. Since their farm system doesn't have the kind of premium talent neccessary for a deal like that.

Very, very funny summary of all the pro Machoman posts in the Machado thread. Excellent job. Enjoyable. Thank you.

Unless we know for a fact there will be no baseball in 2019 or beyond. Actually, I take that back. It would be awful for 2018 as well.

Bogaerts is a disappointment and Bradley is inconsistent. Let's trade them for an obvious superstar in Manny Machado, who hit .259/.310/.471 last year.
