Cora is gonna get raked over the coals in his first damn game. And he deserves it.

I don’t know how, but somehow this is all John Farrell’s fault.

Yeah, what Cora should have done is gotten every pitcher up in the bullpen and take each one out after throwing one ball.

I was worried about the bullpen. There's always some aspect of this team that stops it from being a total juggernaut.
Alex Cora's 8th inning managing was horrific. He kept Kelly in too long and when it was apparent Smith didn't have it and they still had a chance he didn't have Kimbrel come in with 2 outs.
Joe Kelly will always be Joe Kelly.
Carson Smith's stuff wasn't overly impressive either.

I don’t know how, but somehow this is all John Farrell’s fault. Yet, not many folks are commenting on his management of the bullpen. This is funny though !!

Cora just doesn't know how bad Kelly is yet.
I'll give him a pass for now. F Kelly.

I am a firm believer in using the best available relief pitcher in the highest-leverage situation; regardless of it being the 9th or a save situation. Where's Kimbrel? Well, putting him in in the middle of an inning with the bases loaded, he is not the best relief pitcher. He's the guy you don't know if he needs 30 pitches in a clean inning. If that is the case, then why are closers so overpaid? To me, your best and most valuable pitcher is the one who gets you out of jams when the game is on the line, runners are on base, and the heart of the order is coming up. It doesn't take a special relief pitcher to pitch a clean inning. But it does take a great pitcher to get you out of the toughest jams. Don't get me wrong, the closer, the 9th inning guy is indeed valuable; I just think they're overvalued.

I gave Farrell all of 2014 to screw the team up after winning 2013 before I started complaining.

I'm having flashbacks to when rookie manager Butch Hobson let sub-.200 hitting Tony Pena bat in a key spot in a close game on Opening Day 1992. It was then I knew he was no genius. I hope Cora does better.

Hey gang - happy 2018 opening day! 161 more games to go. Hiccups, learning curve - it's all going to happen. Nice to have baseball back. Hoping today gets lots of crap out of the system (aka the bullpen, and Cora going to school in that inning in many ways).
Good to be back!

Hey, maybe we'll get 4 walks in the 9th and rally. Oh wait, we don't take pitches anymore. All right, boys -- let's go uppercut a couple!

Regardless, in a 4 run game, your relief pitchers can't give up 4 walks, no matter which one is in the game. Nobody is debating this Jim. What is being debated is the matchups. Unless Kimbrel isn't available why didn't he face Span? Why was Kelly left in so long when we knew he didn't have it? We didn't know at the time Smith didn't have it.

Besides, Kimbrel is different than most dominant relief pitchers. He throws a lot of pitches and can get wild. He's not the guy you want pitching with the bases loaded.

Cora isn't stupid. He did what managers all do, stick with their guy.
