Seven straight games with no Chatham (including one that was postponed). If he’s hurt, why not DL him? Is it just a simple lack of a better option? Because that’s been giving them a two man bench for the past week.

Because that’s been giving them a two man bench for the past week. Because he's probably day-to-day and they've got enough players where it isn't an issue. There are two other SS's on the roster in Lozada and Rios anyway, so I don't think there's an issue. Everyone's gotten off-days in the last 5 games, so it's not a problem. It doesn't make sense to call someone up from extended just to sit on the bench if Chatham might be healthy again in 2 days. As for Chatham himself, I'm very concerned at this point about his ability to stay healthy. He's in his second full year in the system and he's been healthy for like a month and a half. He missed all of last season with that hamstring tear he reinjured twice, and they found out he had a broken thumb in his signing physical.

Random: a few years ago I started typing "milb 111" to find the Red Sox affiliate scores. It now comes up high on the search for me... is that google knowing me and my searches, or does that happen to others now? (111 being the Red Sox team code... no others come up for me).

Which is worse... that I read this as "he broke a thumb signing" or that I had no trouble believing it...

Interestingly, the Portland game notes essentially show Lakins taking Stankiewicz's spot in the rotation. Most likely scenario is that Stankiewicz will piggyback him as he builds up innings, but I wonder if Stankiewicz could be joining Ball in the bullpen proper at some point.
Frankly, I'm kind of surprised McAvoy isn't the one moving to the bullpen - I've always wondered how his arsenal would play up in that role.

Did anyone get to see him in spring training? Those are pretty eye-opening stats. He got $125K as a 16th rounder so I guess the Red Sox thought more of him than a lot of other draftees. If he keeps this up, he'll surely rise significantly from #59 in the mid season update.

It would be really too bad if Chatham doesn't make/contribute in the majors simply because he just can't stay healthy. He has so much potential, and I would hate to see that halted by his proneness to injuries, something beyond his control.

I edited a very short writeup of him from the spring last night. Should be up this week, I think, as part of Chaz's reports. Speaking only for myself, agreed that he'll be a riser in the May rankings.

Wouldn't be surprised if he's one of the first to get promoted, but there's probably no room for him in Salem's rotation which is an obstacle. A pitcher with a 10/1 K/BB ratio is someone who needs to be challenged more.

I'd argue that he needs a much larger sample size before we're looking at a promotion--for example, I'd like him to face lineups that have seen him before--but point taken. And you're correct that Salem's loaded rotation (plus the fact that it's not like any of them are forcing a promotion to Portland any time soon the way they've been pitching...) decreases his chances for an early promotion even more. But he's easily been the best pitcher in the system so far. The guy is going to have to fall on his face in his last start to not be the Soxprospects Pitcher of the Month.

5 IP /9K/0BB (1ER) isn't gonna slow the Crawford hype.
Hard part is not only is Crawford blocked, he's blocked by prospects... there isn't a Stank/McAvoy obvious bullpen arm in the Salem rotation. And no one close to ready for AA I'd imagine,
