Thompson exits after a double and homer run (that was absolutely smoked) in the sixth. Replaced by Requena, who I guess changed his number to 23 when Weems got promoted. Roster has him listed at #20. The HR, by uber prospect Juan Soto, might've been the farthest ball I've ever seen hit. Was a very nice outing by Thompson. Was glad I saw it after he looked pretty bad in an inter-squad game during our ST trip. Worked efficiently and mixed pitches well. Looked like he's getting used to his new splitter.

The Yard Goats 3 run fifth would start like the first, with a bloop single to right, followed by a ground ball off the glove of a diving Lovullo in the hole for another single. The big hit was Daza keeping an 86 mph change just fair down the left field line for a 2 run double. The last run scored on a grounder to Rivera who double clutched then bounced a throw to Ockimey who couldn't make the pick.

Shawaryn got the first two outs in the 6th, then walked the next two batters and was done. He touched 96 in the first, 95 in the second, 94 in the third, 93 in the fourth and fifth and 92 in the sixth. The last two walks were on 91 then 90 mph fastballs. His strikeouts came on 95 and 83 in the second and 87 in the third.

Weems did not look like a converted catcher on the mound. He started and topped with 95 but also gave up some hard contact. Besides the three hits, Matheny made one of his two diving catches while he was on the mound. Tate also showed off a strong arm firing a laser to the cutoff on a fly that the runner wisely chose not to tag on. When Weems was greeted with an rbi single to the right center gap, Cole nearly gunned the runner going from first to third on a play I thought he had no chance to make. They both seem to me to be quality defensive outfielders.

Offensively, Mars swung the bat well from the right side, hitting two balls hard for doubles. Matheny made a bid for his first home run hitting one 375 to right center that ended the third. Cole got jammed in the first but blooped it over the second baseman's head. He followed that with a line single over short and after a ground out to second, ended with a one hop ground rule double down the left field line off a 92 mph fastball. The Sea Dogs were hitting against Wynkoop's 86 mph fastball most of the night and low 90's from the Y-G relievers.

I should not have ignored Rivera who showed some pop for a skinny shortstop hitting the 3 run homer off a 74 mph change just over the wall in left center and nearly tying the the game with two outs in the ninth with a loud 390 foot drive to center.
