I'll be surprised if Smith actually winds up being the one starting, as Walden is due to report. I guess it's possible they keep him in a bullpen role though.

Really n ice outing this morning from Nick Duron, after struggle to start the year. Hopefully this is a trend for him.

Nice comeback for the Drive today, as they overcome a 2-0 deficit to win 3-2, with 3 runs in the 7th.
De Jesus got the win and was also excellent in relief of Duron, with 4 innings of 4K, 1H, shutout baseball.

Is it time to start talking about Victor Acosta? After his two hit (1 home run) game today he’s batting .351 with a .976 OPS. He hit .304 with a .797 OPS in 31 games in Salem last year. Has the defensive versatility for 1B, 2B, 3B, LF, and RF. Admittedly he’s not going to be a standout defender at any of those positions. He took four and a half seasons to make it to full season ball, but he’s still just 21 for the next month at least. Could he be for real? I like the bat.

It'll take a while before I get too excited about what a guy in his sixth pro season does in Low A. I would also quibble with the point about his having defensive versatility. He was a poor defender at 2B and 3B and hasn't played either since 2016. He's a corner outfielder now. and his 3 games at 1B this year were in a stretch of 4 in which Castellanos, the only 1B on the roster with Osinski on the DL, was apparently trying to play through an injury that put him on the DL eventually, my point being that he was playing there under emergency circumstances, and I don't think it's a position they're actually comfortable playing him in other situations.

With Jordan Weems apparently re-promoted to Portland over the weekend, just wanted to bring up again how schizophrenic the 2011 draft is: www.soxprospects.com/dh2011.htm$6.65M worth of 4 1st-rd MLBers of varying success, followed by two failed hitters who are now high minors RPs, at least one of which will probably be an MLBer in that role, followed by a MLB RP, followed by one of the top 10 players in baseball, followed by a guy who is out of the game because of drug problems, followed by a guy who's in jail, followed by an NFL cornerback, followed by probably the second- or third-best player they took in this draft who should've been a first-rounder, followed by another guy who did jail time. Man, someone needs to write that longform oral history someday.

Any word on Esteban Quiroz injury/return? The organization on the whole has been more tight-lipped on injuries dating back to last season.

Although players likely sign some sort of release regarding public discussion of their injuries and illnesses, I wonder if HIPPA laws, which are increasingly rigid and enforceable, are circling the wagons on this. The teams, coaches and medical personnel might be hearing the distressing sounds of litigation lowing increasingly closer and louder. iMO, it's about time.

After starting the year 0 for 28, Conrad Gregor hit a two-run homer to account for all of the PawSox scoring. Nice to see him break out of such a brutal stretch.
His efforts were overpowered by the sons of Vlad Guerrero, Craig Biggio, and Dante Bichette.
