Between watching Hembree, Kelly, and Barnes, it was like watching the 3 stooges. Best line of the night. Lol I laughed.

Amazing the changes in the strike zone late in games against the Yankees. Houston, Cleveland and now the Sox have seen it in succession. The teams should put together some video and petition the league. Ball and strike calls are so important their significance can not be overstated.

That's why the league doesn't want a robot strike zone.

The Sox went in to face the one team as good as they are. On their turf. With them red hot and the Sox mired in a stretch of .500 ball. With them throwing their current 1, 2 and 4 starters (averaging projections and ERA so far) and the Sox their 2, 4, and 5.
I said going on that I'd be fully satisfied to win 1 game. The Sox almost won the matchup of their #5 with the Yankee ace, and each team had their #4 beat the opposing #2. You have to take that. Getting unexpectedly good performances from Pomeranz and E-Rod actually makes the series rather promising.
I didn't read the game thread from the second game. Did anyone note that Chad Green gave up three line drives, all outs? There was a lot of bad luck in our inability to extend the lead.
Some of that bad karma did get reversed tonight, with E-Rod benefiting from a generous strike zone (the BrooksBaseball charts seem to show the Sox getting 4 gifts and 5 squeezes, while the Yankees got 0 gifts and 6 squeezes) and JDM homering on a ball that's an out in Fenway.

main point - we are tied for first (actually in first by all of those win comparison things) - and we are going to find some teams to (hopefully) beat up on. And - Cora is getting experience under his belt - finding out about the strengths and many weaknesses of his bullpen, and which hitters are struggling. The big thing is to see what sort of adjustments he makes along the way. It's (mostly) all good!

Also, the Yankees have played 6 more home games than the Sox. It is time to end the Hembree as anything more than a back of the bullpen arm experiment. His fastball is straight and he has no command of his offspeed pitches.

Let's review:
JBJ is good enough to start, except when he isn't But he isn't good enough to go in for late inning defense But he is too good a player to get optioned when Pedroia is back
Stay tuned for updates

Tonight, J.D was Big Poppy. That's why the Sox signed him. There is no Papi but my Papi. That said, JD has lived up to the hype. Reminds me a bit more of Manny at the plate than Papi, but I would take either in their prime any day.

The league is run out of NY by Yankee fans.

Sooner or later, JD and Betts can't carry this team all by themselves. Devers, Benni, Bogaerts going to need more consistency. Look at the MFY lineup, they're producing throughout.

No. There is another. And he will be back soon. It's asking quite a bit of a guy going into his mid-30's who has been out for awhile to step back in and be a difference-maker right away. If anything, I expect Pedroia to make an impact on defense more than anything else in his early going.

I agree with most of what you said. I have a hard time trusting Kelly though. Welcome aboard to the message board. Don't take what I said too seriously. Glad to have you here and talking about it. Thanks, been a long time forum stalker, finally made an account today. None of us wants our team to lose to the Yankees Hey, bud. Welcome aboard.

The Sox are leading the league in almost every offensive category and only 3 behind the Angels in HRs. They have 5 of the 25 batters batting over .325 and that doesn't include Ramirez. The Yankees lineup has as many holes as the Sox lineup. Other than that, your post makes sense.
