It's entirely possible Angel Padron will get the start for Greenville today. He popped up on the MiLB schedule this morning. But I'll stick with the game notes. It could have changed, however, with the day off yesterday.

Pawtucket comes to 'Cuse for a four game series starting tomorrow, so of course Beeks won't be pitching in that series.
EDIT: On the bright side I won't have to pretend that giving my wife Chiefs tickets is a good Mother's Day present.

Another day where the full rotation (maybe, I guess for Greenville) is completely composed of top 20 prospects.

I just saw something I've never seen before. Beeks pitching, bases loaded, nobody out, 1-0 game. Wild pitch. Ball bounces off the ground, off the catchers mitt and into the air in foul territory about 10 feet from the catcher. Beeks raced over, caught the ball in the air and backhand flipped it to the catcher to nail the runner. Difficult to describe but surrealistic to the max.

Crazy play, I'm sure it'll be on milb.com highlights. Also of note, Beeks fields his position with the best of them: Last game he fielded a well excited bunt by Tyler Wade and started 2 double plays on comebackers to the mound. #Feats

Hadn't been mentioned, but Lin was activated by the PawSox today, and the countermove was Chad De La Guerra being demoted to Portland. Probably past due: .137/.158/.205, even with awful BABIP luck, just isn't getting it done. 27.6% K rate was a career high by a significant amount and he only had a single walk. Looks like a situation where challenging him after 222 AA PAs was too aggressive.

Only 10.8 K/9 for Beeks today...how disappointing.

Old friend Pedro Beato saved all three games in the series. Straight 80 on the vengeance scale.

Old friend Pedro Beato saved all three games in the series. Straight 80 on the vengeance scale. He's made 14 appearances. Sox org leader is Scott with 12, followed by a bunch of guys with 10. Getting a lot of work. Stat of the day: Entering today (10 IP min), 6 PawSox pitchers have K/BB ratios above 5, which is outstanding (Scott, Beeks, Smith, Brasier, Workman, Buttrey). 2 more are above 3 (Shepherd, Cuevas). 8 PawSox are averaging a strikeout per inning (Buttrey, Beeks, Scott, Brasier, Jerez, Martin, Haley, Shepherd). You start to wonder how much rope they'll give a guy like Brian Johnson with Velazquez showing he can potentially be the kind of true swingman this team hasn't had since maybe Arroyo or Wakefield (am I forgetting someone?), and potentially useful LHRPs in Poyner, the rejuvenated Scott, Jerez, and maybe even Josh Smith.

I'd call Aceves a swingman in 2011 before he transitioned to a more traditional bullpen role that he was less-well suited for in 2012 and then transitioning again into something like a houseguest who had outstayed his welcome in 2013.

On an unbelievably sucky day in Red Sox land, Shawaryn is a bright light.

Stellar outing from Shawaryn against one of the best minor league lineups: 7IP 3H 0ER 1BB 8K I noticed that, and I’m pretty pleased with his overall line. Like to see the Ks up, but he’s had very good control and isn’t giving up many hits. I’m wondering at this point if he’s positioned himself (provided he keeps pitching this efficiently and effectively) to move up come the usual round of late May into mid-June promotions. It’s also nice to see Beeks have an off day and still pitch pretty well. Like to see the PCs lower, but his overall line was solid. Along with Jerez and Martin, those two might have some impact on the pennant race.
