Mata days are usually the only day I like to get up and watch boxscores in this farm system. He's posting better numbers than Houck and he's 2 years younger and playing at the same level. Nothing taking away from Houck, he should be a major leaguer someday, but Mata is the only prospect with plus potential in this system unless Groome comes back strong in 2020.

Mata’s last game action was on the 10th. It’ll be interesting to see how a 12 day layoff affects his pitching.

I think the whole Salem pitching staff will be dealing with a similar issue with all those rainouts. Mata (and others, esp. starters) might be rusty, but the break might be sort of a blessing to keep innings down a bit and keep the young arms fresh throughout the year.

Mata, Hart, and Cuevas have all had some good outings this year, as well as some not so good outings, for Mata mainly his last one. Cuevas has been quite rocky earlier in the starts, but is often able to settle down. Interested to see how they do today.

Unlike the college arms, (as mentioned) Mata is youngest pitcher in A+ ball, having turned 19 earlier this month. The only other 19 year old is Adrian Morejon for the SDP system.

Seems like De Jesus has been around awhile, but he’s still only 21. Doesn’t turn 22 until after the season is over. This is his first shot in Salem.
Glad to see Kemp come off the DL. Was getting worried this was going to be another lost year for him. Hopefully he can round back into his pre-injury form of last year.

Wet field conditions kill another Pedroia rehab start. Rain, rain, go away...

Ugh. Santiago Espinal, aka The One Position Player Doing Anything This Year, was hit by a pitch in the top of the first and then was pinch hit for in his next at-bat. The fact that there was no pinch runner makes me hopeful that it's nothing serious, possible just a bruise that swelled up or something. Fingers Crossed.

Denyi Reyes putting together a nice little start to the season. Third in the the league in strikeouts, with Crawford 4th.
