Looks like Dalbec is now 8th in the Carolina League in OPS in addition to being first in the league in HRs. His batting average is still low, but he is 4th in the league in walks.
Do people still think they should try him as a pitcher?

Wont really learn much about Dalbec until after an adjustment period in Portland. Maybe he will strikeout 45% of the time, maybe he is just going to strikeout 30% of the time at every level, maybe he grows as a hitter. It's just really hard to give a crap about his or anyone's batting average especially when he walks, hits more fly balls than anyone, and has elite exit velocities.

Nobody is talking about Cooperstown, just becoming a decent prospect.

Not a batting average fan, huh? I guess I'm the lone holdout. To be fair, I am scouting his box score so it's not like I really know anything about the guy. I think my point is let's not do a victory lap around his OPS when there are some glaring holes in his offensive game that aren't going to get any better when he starts seeing more legit off-speed pitches at the next level. Plus, I just put one foot on the Ockimey bandwagon and, between the two of them, that's about all I can handle mentally right now. You mentioned his K% as a red flag and that's a legit concern. In fact, K% rate for me is the most predictive stat and it should be watched but he does a lot of other stuff extremely well: Drawing walks and hitting the ball in the air hard (on Fangraphs grades he has 70 raw power), he also plays a valuable defensive position and we know that he has a least a plus tool there (arm). So it's a mixed bag, let's wait and see what his contact numbers are in AA before dismissing or crowning him. As Hatfield would say: "patience young grasshopper" 😉

I think we are pretty there with you. Dalbec certainly has his warts as a prospect. And the K rate isn't good at this level. But let's just see what happens. The system is thin. Let's hold out just a bit of hope.

Ockimey hitting the ball well right now. He's interesting. Has some pop.

Solid outing? He needs to miss more bats I think.

Solid outing? He needs to miss more bats I think. this is the first time the kid has pitched above the high school level. maybe give him more than 40 professional innings to see what he might be?

Solid outing? He needs to miss more bats I think. He didn’t allow a run. Yes it was solid. Probably better than solid when factoring in this players April performance He’s made strides this month. Let’s hope it continues and he can be a bright spot soon.

You know what I think about Ockimey. I think he shows some pop. But when he makes it to the show the real power is going to come out in Fenway. Like a Nomar. He hit good in the minors but when he made the Sox he was a monster one of the best bad ball hitters.
