8 wild pitches and 2 passed balls for the Red Sox. I know the DSL is ridiculous like that, but I don't remember ever playing a game like that in high school at the same ages. Not even half as bad.

Mike Shawaryn with another spectacular start. 7 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, and 8 Ks. His control has been excellent (1.99 BB/9), and while he’s not getting a ton of strikeouts, his K rate is solid and his differential is good. He’s not giving up a lot of hits, either. I’d like to see him add a pitch or perfect a real swing-and-miss offering, but even as constituted I think he’s looking more and more like a viable #4/5.

Going on the DL from a virus is pretty intense. Idk if it’s a bad flu, or even a viral meningitis or something, but I hope there are no lasting issues (shouldn’t be, at least). Tough break for the guy.

I was just going through that too. It's like bad little league. In the top of the 9th alone: 8 runs, 3 hits (2 singles & a grand slam), 1 error, 4 BB, 1HBP, 2 K, 4 WP, 2 SB (a double steal, home & 2nd) The bottom of the 9th wasn't a thing of beauty either. It might actually have been fun to watch!

Tough break for the guy. Yeah I was wondering what the deal was, but you can't fault a guy if he got a virus that was bad enough to DL him. Not really an "inability to stay healthy" thing like I was ready to call it before seeing Speier's tweet.

Not really an "inability to stay healthy" thing like I was ready to call it before seeing Speier's tweet. Right? I mean, it’s not an injury it’s an infectious disease. It’s certainly unusual to have to go on the DL for a virus, but I’ve seen young, totally healthy (previously) people in the ICU after flu, so it happens. It stinks because he really has been showing some of the skills that made him a second-rounder (and I liked that pick; not a ton but I thought he had promise). Hopefully he comes back soon; at the very least it’s not another soft tissue injury or fracture. Just gotta wash those hands a bit more.
