And apparently Agent Smith pitching for the PawSox. Really too bad they are pitching against each other.

SSA - Lowell – Season begins June 15 – THAT’S TOMORROW FOLKS But there IS Lowell activity today, if you are local... Usually they play an exhibition game against the Nashua Silver Knights, but this sounds more like an intrasquad spring game.

Always a fun time to hit those games when I was younger.

Danny Diaz doubles to right field to get 2 more RBI, bringing his 11 game total up to 14.
Antoni Flores with 3 more hits, including a double. Up to .333 on the young year. If either of them moves up to the GCL when they open up on Monday, I’d think it would be Flores. He’s shown a better approach so far. But Diaz’s aggressive approach is reaping benefits in its own way, I guess.

Personally, I don't think we see anyone go up on Monday. When Espinoza went up right away, he was clearly outclassing the league (15-13-6-3-3-21). A better comp might be Devers, who went up on July 3 when the GCL season had started on June 20 and the DSL season had started on May 31. This year, the DSL started on June 4. I think it's reasonable to wait until these guys have about a month of games before we really start the watch. But who knows?

DSL Red Sox 1 with an offensive outburst by the way: 17 runs across 19 hits. Leading the way were Brandon Rincones (Aruba) who went 4/5, 2B, 3RBI, and Ceddanne Rafaela (Curacao) who went 4/6, 2 2B, RBI.

Sorry but the above post made me think of John Stamos in the Kokomo video. ![](https://media.giphy.com/media/oV8JWB0uCTG80/giphy.gif)

Tangentially related: Maybe milb.com really just isn't going to fix its coding to get the DSL Red Sox2 box to appear on the team affiliates page.

Two innings in, and Houck has been excellent. 94-95 with the 4FB, great movement on slider and 2FB, and he's even gotten his only K with the changeup, I think. Curveball will come out later.

Denyi Reyes has 10 Ks through six scoreless innings so far. The dude is tearing Low A up. Might be time to see if he’s got what it takes in Salem.

Six no-hit innings is a fine showing, even if he’s still walking too many and the K rate is low. I think when he really learns to command the 4-seam about half of those walks will become Ks. He’s obviously struggling with command/control after overhauling most of his arsenal, but he has shown signs of improvement lately. Good to see the stuff is there.

He was fantastic in the DSL starting out a couple years ago, and he’s basically repeating that now. He’s a smidge old for a “real prospect” in low A (I’m splitting hairs, really, he won’t be 22 til after the season, so he’s totally age-appropriate). He’s always had the terrific control. But he sits 90 at the absolute best. He could be one of those classic cases of pitchability success at the lower levels (kind of like Raudes was) who struggles as they move up. But his numbers are terrific: only 62 hits and 10 walks, with 82 whiffs in 77.2 innings. An outstanding ERA to go along with ground-ball tendencies. He’s been remarkably consistent with his performance, and at 6’4” you’d think he could *maybe* add some velo? I get the sense that Salem will be a huge test, but he’s obviously not being challenged in Greenville.

A little late here, but this needs to be mentioned in the thread. I'll let Mr. Dunne do the talking:

And don't forget Houck/Martinez within 1 strike of a combined no-hitter. Nice showing from the affiliates' pitching last night.

And the most impressive thing about Houck's performance was the 13 ground ball outs. If you're getting that kind of poor contact, the hits will even out, but it takes a lot of singles to beat you.

Yes. Should have mentioned this, too. He's still struggling with control/command, but seems to be making some progress with the GB rate/weak contact.

Houck’s GB rate by month: April (35%), May (43%), and June (74%).

Houck was fantastic. Umpire was TERRIBLE. When Tanner comes from the higher arm-slot, it's borderline impossible to lift the ball against him. Houck's line should've been 5 K and 3 BB (at most). May have been the best start by any of our pitchers this year.
