Everything Holt does is better than Nunez. He’s gotta be the starter Heck, I'm even open to letting Pearce play second over Nunez. Especially against lefties.

I just can't believe that we left 20 runners on base this evening. SMH.

Granted, this was the game of the series we *should* have won, but it's always good to get a win on the road against a playoff caliber team. That takes the pressure off tomorrow to avoid getting swept.

When a player plays half their games at one park, they can form their approach to take advantage of the dimensions. It’s much harder to change your approach for 3 games and then change it back. So the home team will always be able to take more advantage of it. So I guess when the Sox go play the Yankees at Fenway the Yankee fans will bemoan all the cheap popups over the Monster the Sox hit? Looking forward to it. Yes they could. I don't talk to those people so IDC.

Amazing - 56 wins. No NL team with more than 48. Pretty incredible season forming up here.
Great win!

A glorious thing to open my phone too. What a whuppin’. Love seeing that stuff from Sale, not to mention the re-appearance of Devers’s bat.

We'll all tell our kids and grandkids that we've had the privelege of watching JBJ play CF defense everyday. What a treat!

Don’t look now (a fantastic slow-burn thriller with ‘70s Donald Sutherland, btw), but the Sox are back in first place in MLB in scoring, and they’re creepin’ on Houston’s run differential.
Agree that this win takes a lot of pressure off tomorrow and gives them a chance to deliver a nice gut punch to NY at home.

Also: Sandy Leon! Who’da thunk a month ago that come July 1 he would qualify as an above-avg hitting catcher, cracking the .700 OPS barrier? Is it remotely reasonable to dream on the sort of hot streak he had on arrival? Or am I just giddy from, you know, the whuppin’?

Advice for Severino. Don't even think about trying to pitch to Devers.

Advice for Severino. Don't even think about trying to pitch to Devers. I can’t even let myself entertain the gorgeous possibility of Price going vintage and the Sox offense shelling Severino. It’s so unlikely...but, you know, a man can dream.

Taking the last game against Severino in Yankee Stadium is like walking into the Yankmes kitchen and taking a big dump in it.

The Red Sox really needed to win that game and they responded with virtually a perfectly played game. They were awesome. Nothing like demolishing the MFYs.
Sale was unhittable. Hope we see THAT guy in October.
Devers is a huge difference maker in the lineup when he produces. Maybe that's a sign of things to come for the entire second half. He's obviously taking to direction well. Another benefit of JDM who had another great game, too.
Now any pressure that was there for the Sox is off.
The matchup favors the MFYs in Sunday's game and if they take it (as long as the Sox don't give it away), so be it. The Sox leave NY tied for 1st. Not a bad thing. The Sox won the game they needed to win.
On the other hand, if the Sox beat NY tomorrow they fall 2 out and lose this miniseries in their own ballpark which is kind of deflating.
So the pressure is now squarely on the Yankees. I'm sure some pressure is also on Price with the media making it sound like he wants to duck the Yankees, which is very silly and kind of stupid - it gives Price a chance to shove it up their butts.
We'll see how both the MFYs and Price respond to pressure. I think the rest of the Red Sox team should be playing pretty loose tomorrow. We'll see what happens. Hopefully that attitude change that Cora and Sale alluded to carries over.

Devers is .354 / .367 / .688 since June 17 (12 G, 49 PA). That's .075 / .072 / .130 higher than it was yesterday.

Austin Romine underwent an MRI on his left hamstring after the game. So Kyle Higashioka could be catching for the Yankees tomorrow.
His experience against the Red Sox consists of the 3 innings he caught tonight.
That said, Severino has been nails all season.

Severino, today and then I get to see them, in person, take on perhaps the best SP in all of MLB, currently, tomorrow, in a Porcello v Scherzer match-up, at Nationals Park...(ESPN game, where not blacked out, iirc)...
...and, while doing a little Sunday morning reading, noted former Sox draftee, Steven Pearce's signing's historic connection, to Kelly Johnson, being mentioned - that each are one of six, in MLB history, to play for every team in a Division, and those two are the only ones of the six, to do it in the same Division, the AL East.
So, Severino & Scherzer, b2b...that should be an interesting test.

Blessing of the day, game 3, ESPN and ARoid. I'll probably watch but listen to Tony C.
For those of you with MLB.TV, you can do this by one tab to Gameday and clicking on the radio icon, another tab to MLB.TV where you mute the volume.
