I imagine that Leon was probably going to start tomorrow anyway and then it's the All Star break, so hopefully that kick starts his recovery. Now to see what happened with Kelly.
Edit: My bad folks, I kept thinking that the All Star break was this coming week and not the next one.

Everytime you think Swihart is going to get traded, something unexpected pops up. Glad we still have him.

Thank heavens we didn't trade Swihart, or the Sox would be screwed

I guess because it's the pinky on his throwing hand the recovery time could last a bit longer.
I guess Swihart gets a reprieve, but if they're not happy enough with his defense this could possibly mean the Sox look at Wilson Ramos as a potential acquisition?
Don't know if they have enough to get him, even as a rental.
The best thing the Sox could hope for is that Swihart gets more regular ABs and starts hitting.
It's not really a good thing that Vazquez is injured, but it's possible something good could come from it.
It's not like Vazquez was really playing well anyways. Leon, who I think is a better defender, is actually hitting better so he'll play more, which might help out the pitching staff more.
I wonder who the Sox will call up to take the roster spot. Will it be Lin?
They wouldn't call up Pomeranz, would they? I don't think he looks ready. Then again somebody might have to come up if Kelly is injured.

He was pulled due to lightheadedness

Pomeranz isn't coming up until he gets results per Cora.
Cora is going to have a tough time playing Sandy Leon everyday comsidering he hates starting Swihart at the catching position.

One of the Sox pitchers needs to step up and ask for Swihart. It would be a great team oriented move and given the situation it has no down side.

Glad to hear that Cora feels that way. Pomeranz looks terrible at AAA. He'd be batting practice (aka bullpen killer) if he got starts with the Sox. I think Cora is going to have no choice but to start Swihart at least twice a week. Isn't that one of the reasons they supposedly used for keeping Swihart? That they had no other catchers they could call up if an injury occurred? Well here's the injury. Guess it's a good thing they kept Swihart. Unless of course Swihart can't hack being a catcher anymore. If that's the case, then the Sox will have to make a deal - and Ramos is the obvious candidate as he'd be a major upgrade. I guess it's also kind of a good thing they held onto Brian Johnson. I hated him coming out of the pen, but as a spot starter he's held his own, although it hasn't been pretty. But even so, he's a better option that Pomeranz right now, who's still a mess.

Then they would have to put Pomeranz back on the DL. He has no options. The Sox have 3 catchers at Pawtucket with major league experience. Dan Butler is a more than reasonable emergency catcher to have around and he knows most of the staff.

Ramos would cost way too much, Vazquez isn’t done for the year.

This is the best chance to give him let Swihart catch.

This must have happened when he stole second with another runner on 3rd up 7-4 in the seventh with two outs. At the time I wondered why he was running in that situation. If JBJ gets a hit they are up 8-4 (a comfortable lead va KC) with still no guarantee he scores from 2nd given Vasquez’ average speed. Even if he makes an out (as he did), 7-4 is still a solid lead. Running to try and get to 9-4 didn't seem worth the risk and now our #1 catcher is out.

Re: Swihart usage, the team has 8 games remaining before the ASB that includes 2 Brian Johnson starts, my guess is that he'll catch those and the rest going to Leon.

How does Beeks line up with taking Johnson's next couple starts? We need the All-Star Break.

How does Beeks line up with taking Johnson's next couple starts? We need the All-Star Break. It should only be 1 start because of the All-Star break. Michael Silverman Verified account @mikesilvermanbb 47m47 minutes ago Sounds as if Brian Johnson irritated his hip running the bases in his last in DC. Does not sound as if he will be down for extended time. Velazquez probable starter Tuesday. E-Rod starts Monday.
