Is this uptick a uniquely Jarren Duran thing? It would seem like the change in defensive positioning would most benefit players like Duran - speed to beat out throws without the extra defender. Feels like BABIP should be up league wide It's up to .297, which is higher than 2020-2022 (.292, .292, .290) but it's a bit low for 2004-2019 (ranged from .295-.303). BABIP is up a tiny bit, but I would label it squarely 'A Jarren Duran thing'. That said, it's also a 'half-of-a-season' thing as Duran is one of 5 players with a BABIP of .365 or higher; last season there were six players with 250+ PA who had a BABIP of .365 or higher on 7/16 - by the end of the season there were zero. I don't expect Durran's BABIP to be nearly this high a month from now (that said, I would have given you the same answer a month ago).

I’m almost ready to buy a Duran jersey. He’s been that good!

He could be the most exciting player in all of baseball.
In the meantime, the MFYs are all alone in last place. Good time to read the NY newspapers.

In 2023, Duran has shaved his K% down 10% from his 2021 season, bumped his walk rate 3% and bumped his launch angle 2.5%

Does ANYONE think he could maintain satisfactory contact rates and still tap into some of the Worcester power to RF we saw? I am dreaming on that happening one of these next couple seasons.

While I'm sure he could hit for more power I do wonder if it would takeaway from his gap line drive swing. I like this version of Duran and would like to see him drag a bunt every now and then. This is a guy who could beat out a bunt and either steal 2b or take 2b and 3b on a bad throw from a pressured defender dealing with his bunt.

How many guys can take a walk and turn it into a run on the next pitch? I think he's the most exciting player in baseball and you don't want to miss an at bat. The lineup revolves around what he does. How he changed from a major disappointment last year to All Star materiel in one year just amazes me. To think he was on the trade market last winter and nobody would take him was just lucky for us. Nobody could have foreseen that. And nobody did.

June of 2022 Duran had what was the lowest K% mark of his MLB career at 19.2% (52 PA).
This past month it dropped 13.9% (79 PA). His ISO was also a career high .274. Not sure how much of this he can keep up, but it was a very impressive month.
(Minimum 6+ PA per month for sample)

I get the thought of wondering if Duran can unlock more HR power but honestly the guys been tinkering with his swing just about every year since he was drafted.
He's found one that's worked wonders this year, I'd rather he just focus on cementing whatever mechanics he's been using this year because he's been a hell of a hitter.

His OPS and ISO are great, plus the steals are bonus bases. Just keep doing what you're doing, Jarren!

Honestly, he should move away from social media and find an adequate support systen buttressed by an appropriate pharmacological regimen and mental health treatment.

Anyone know the timeline on his toe surgery? Is he going to be able to resume activities on a somewhat regular schedule?
Love his attitude.

Could Duran net a good starting pitcher in a trade this offseason?

Could Duran net a good starting pitcher in a trade this offseason? I have my doubts that he could, at least by himself. Him as a headliner plus a prospect or two? I would think probably could depending on what your definition of "good" is anyway. I don't think it'd bring back an ace unless one of the prospects was a top 5 guy in the system. A young controllable #3/4 starter I think would be possible though.

The question really is does another team see him in the same slot in a prospective deal that the Red Sox viewed Verdugo in the Betts trade.

Could Duran net a good starting pitcher in a trade this offseason? He's got 8 HR and plays average defense.

Yea and has 34 doubles and his wRC+ is 119 with great speed, there's more to hitting than HRs. Not saying that he will necessarily net a good pitcher himself, I don't think he would but to just cherry pick those two aspects of his season isn't telling the full story.
