A 6:35 am start is more like a revolution than an evolution.

Jagger Rusconi also rehabbing in the GCL. DHing today. Tobias is playing 2B for the second consecutive day. Maybe they’ll give him the full nine this time. That makes four rehabbing players in the GCL: Schellenger, Glorius, Tobias, and Rusconi.

Nick Northcut, 2-2 with 2 BB's and his 1st professional HR. Looking like a better sign with every passing day.

Kevin Thomas @clearthebases 14m14 minutes ago More Michael Chavis back in the lineup after 10-day absence because of a sore wrist. Playing third and batting third for @portlandseadogs

Met up with SteveofBradenton for the Sox GCL tilt today at Ed Smith Stadium. With an air conditioned cafe, attendance at these games is up from 5 or so to maybe 100. The ambiance and cameraderie is great.
Northcut 'looks' like a player in stature and by his play. He was at 3b and made good plays on a soft topper by the pitcher and 2-3 plays to his right far behind third throwing runners out from foul territory. His arm is good but not a Devers like cannon. He also displayed quick twitch by snagging a rocket liner. At the plate he had a sharp single up the middle and a homer over the 366' sign in left. He had sharply lined the prior pitch about 320' to right that just curled foul....HR in Fenway. Again, he is well put together and has 'the look'.
Abreu also homered on the same course. Both balls were aided by a 10 mph wind.
Tobias is chunky and did not look particularly adroit at second FWIW.

Trey Ball is taking batting practice today in Portland according to David Laurila. Also notable considering he is on the DL right now. Generally pitchers on the DL are encouraged not to take BP lolol. Maybe this is a look a potential position change that we have all thought about

Trey Ball is taking batting practice today in Portland according to David Laurila. Oh great, maybe we can have another 100 page discussion on him. If the universe has any karmic justice, he'll end up a better outfielder than Austin Meadows.

John, Steve and Sarasoxer are the best. Love you guys!

Impressive homer and he also walked twice along with a single, but what stood out to me was his range and hands at 3rd. Gentlemen (and ladies), this kid can definitely stay and probably thrive at the hot corner!

Don’t look now but Sam Travis is hitting .304 with an .853 OPS in July. And that’s not counting tonight’s two hit effort.

Nice to see his CS rate dropping with more SB success. I’m convinced he’s a dude, though I kinda was when they drafted him. But now it’s not just wishful thinking. OPSing almost 1.000 in a passel of PAs. Love that he’s missed no beats learning a new position too. Now, if they could up that launch angle a smidge and get those GBs under 45%...

Tonight was, as far as I can tell, the first time Stephen Fife pitched at McCoy. Old friend Fife...blast from the (relatively recent) past. Reminds me of watching Shaun Anderson making the Futures squad this year. Only not painful like that.
