Quick Question in regards to Tony Renda who has been hitting .387/.436/.573 combined in AA/AAA (.415/.436/.566 in AAA) this season. Is there any chance that the red sox add him to the 40-man roster in the event that they put Pedroia on the 60 Day DL or trade someone already on the 40-man. I know they signed Brandon Phillips with the hope that he could maybe make it back to the majors, but he has been hitting .192/.276/.269 in his limited AB's with Pawtucket, and the position of 2B hasn't exactly been productive this season for the sox.

MiLB.com is listing Matthew Kent as the starter for the Paw-Sox today for what it's worth.

Tony Renda had a .611 OPS at Triple-A last year (including time spent at Reno), and sports a .500 BABIP since his promotion to Pawtucket. Recalibrating him with a .357 BABIP and his Pawtucket numbers are .302/.327/.453. I don't see much chance he vaults Holt and Lin into the second base job in the majors. He'd probably be better than Nunez has been, though.

So unless my math is wrong, with Kelley and Kent going up to Pawtucket, there’s two roster moves to be made at the AAA level. 3 if they activate Romanski. 100 games have come and gone.

According to the transaction log, Josh A. Smith is on TIA and Ty Buttrey is on the DL. So that leaves just one for Romanski.

Buttrey is on the DL with Right Knee Inflamation per the Pawsox broadcast.
Been watching the game on MiLB.tv and Tony Renda has made 4 very impressive plays at 3rd already. Barehanded an infield hit, two more charging on dying grounders plays and an impressive diving play to his left. Kent has been dropping his arm slot with 2 strikes, and looks very comfortable in his first AAA start thus far.

I can never find a good transaction log for the minors.

I can never find a good transaction log for the minors. This is the League Transactions page for the IL. It's linked under "Stats and Scores" (?!) on the PawSox page. Other league links ought to be available via affiliate pages the same way.

Lane Milligan with a 4 hit game to raise his average to .338...and is replaced in the ninth inning after grounding out to second. An optimistic man would think they replaced him with a better fielder for the bottom of the ninth and a comfortable lead. But with the way this year has gone...
Juan Carlos Abreu is making progress in rookie ball. Getting consistently better every year. This year he’s slashing .333/.400/.485/.885. It’s his third year in the GCL so I’m not getting too excited, but he’s progressing. May be a candidate to go to Lowell towards the end of the ceiling if he continues to hit well.

Whether he ever becomes a “prospect” or not, he’s at least having his own measure of success.

The one thing I was worried about in the event that he wasn’t traded was an arm/elbow injury. Back injuries aren’t good, but st least it’s not the arm.

So in non-Mata news, Jake Romanski was indeed activated today and assigned to Lowell for the moment. Went 0-2 with a K, catching 5 innings.

It's the 2018 Red Sox farm system. Precautionary removal means he's going to need surgery and miss the rest of this and all of next season.
