If Nunez is healthy, we may not need a second baseman after all. Maybe when Devers comes back they’ll actually catch Swithart and the lineup will all of a sudden be really deep especially if Moreland gets on track.

The 25th man on the roster all season in Blake Swihart wins it. What a magical season. I was going to say this.

So many positives coming from unusual and really needed areas. Ticking them off - pitching - Price, Thornburg, Brasier, Hembree and Kelly and - 7-0! - Velazquez. Stellar. Nunez - much better at 3b than 2nd...his bat - Swihart (the hero) - but also JBJ and Holt. Nice to have the big guns get bailed by the others on the team - it is a COMPLETE team. Such fun! Bad news! The squirrels and birds are eating all my tomatoes!!! Arrgh!

Playoff type feel to this game. Sox had to beat Phil's ace in a low scoring game.
Game day whipping boy Nunez played a huge role on offense and defense. His bat has been really hot. Our "unreliable" bullpen also came through again.

The more he’s played recently, the better he’s played. Good stuff.

Brian Johnson and Hector Velazquez have been underrated parts of this team’s success. It’s nice to have two effective and healthy swingmen.

Non-baseball comment - I keep the birds and squirrels off of my tomatoes by feeding and watering the birds nearby - all the critters are in my back yard! OK - back to baseball - still stoked about this game!

After the game (still games in progress of course), our team batting average - .270 - tops in all of the MLB - and third in ERA - barely behind LA Dodgers (3.51 vs 3.48). Amazing balanced dominance (and of course leads to being 42 games over .500)

He has to say this so he can stare down the teams holding out for big packages so maybe they drop last minute.

The Sox probably keep Devers on the DL long enough that Velazquez doesn't end up burning a option in over 20 days in the minors right before August is over (when rosters expand). Just my guess.

The way Thornburg has pitched and Kelly started to look better takes a lot of pressure of being forced to make a trade

Kinsler probably doesn't make it in the lineup until Thursday when the Sox face the Yankees. That'll give him 2 days to get settled in.

This series should be a good challenge with Nola on the hill tonight and then us throwing Pomeranz tomorrow. I'd be ok with a split although this team has proven me wrong many times. I was certainly worried about this series.. winning the game tonight is huge. Now let’s see what Pomeranz can do but at least we are guaranteed a split. Also, can’t say enough about how awesome it is that Swihart was the one to get the clutch hit.

I wouldn’t count on Pomeranz, feels like a scheduled loss to me. Don’t know why they didn’t just stick with Johnson. Pomeranz is washed up and isnt even going to be on the team next year.

That was a sweet win.
The top five of the lineup did nothing and it was the bottom of the order that contributed.
It was awesome to see Blake Swihart get the game winning hit. I'm glad he's still on the team. I hope that as time goes on they'll give him a serious look for the primary catcher's job. I still see that first round talent there.
Nunez is hitting better and moving better. He was motoring on that key stolen base.
The bullpen did a good job. They made me nervous just about every inning. Nothing clean, but they stranded all the runners they needed to strand. Thornburg is starting to resemble Milwaukee Thornburg. It's just hard for me, after a handful of innings, to pronounce him totally back from TOS, but the eye test looks good after whatever adjustment they seemed to make with him. That said I hope a bargain of a deal falls into the Red Sox' lap tomorrow, but I won't count on it.
It was also good to see Price pitch well. His ERA looked way to high at 4.47 or whatever it was. Now it sits at 3.97 which is more in line of what I expected, although he's capable of being better than that.
I was surprised Cora let Price pitch to that last batter in the 8th. I thought he was done. He gave up a hard liner, but right at Mookie - good BABIP result.
The Sox won the game they needed to win. As long as they don't give tomorrow's game away, while I'd prefer a victory, I'm ok if this is the game they lose. Kimbrel's fresh if they have a lead. They won't have Velazquez for too long - it's amazing how he's always on the scene to grab a win, and Johnson should be able to give some innings - so they have a chance.
