That was even a high 99 mph fastball Swihart hit and he pulled it. Bat speed is not a problem. I say hold onto that kid because we still may not have seen his full potential. Not saying he's an all star but he has super sub potential or could still become a solid starter.

Not saying he's an all star but he has super sub potential or could still become a solid starter. When BA named him the #17 prospect in MLB, I took a look at all the catchers who were top 20 prospects coming out of AAA. Their collective track record was tremendous. A majority became All-Stars, and IIRC there were only a couple of busts. That analysis may be somewhere on this site, if it made it to the archives somehow.
On another Swihart note ...
Usually when a guy has a .500 OBP and .667 SA for a month, he's 1/3 with a BB and a 2B. Swihart is now at .433 / .500 / .667 in 30 PA. I'm sure there have been plenty of guys to put up a .500 OBP for a month in 30+ PA, but I wonder if any of them had a .217 in 83 PA previously.

(paraphrasing) "Tek thinks he's a future all star catcher and Tek knows a lot more about catching than I do."

Credit to you boys for staying up last night, I couldn't make it. Some of you guys aren't too confident with Pomeranz tonight, huh? Well, you could be setting yourself up for some abuse.....we'll see.

The way Thornburg has pitched and Kelly started to look better takes a lot of pressure of being forced to make a trade Just no on Kelly. He’s never turning a corner. He might get good results for 10 appearances or whatever but he’s not figuring anything out. Ever. We need to just accept he’s a Stoller coaster.

You cannot have worse at bats than the Red Sox tonight. Congrats to me on a perfectly executed reverse jinx.

The guy is throwing 87. He’s done.

If Pom gets crushed tonight, he's back on the DL. They can start Johnson until ERod gets back.

The good news is that Johnson is almost certainly piggy backing tonight.

The good news is that Johnson is almost certainly piggy backing tonight. And would be a good chance to compare and contrast their curves. If Pomeranz curve is as good as Johnson's we have another asset. If it's considerably less, something will need to change.

Meh, even if Pomeranz throws a CG SO people saying he’s terrible and this is high probability loss don’t deserve ridicule.

Saying Pomeranz has been terrible doesn't require too much keen observation, saying he will be tonight requires a damn crystal ball. That is what I am saying. Kick some azzzzzz.....Drew. !!!

Good day to rest Betts and Leon. Holts at DH is ridiculous though, he should be in RF over JD.

Arrieta's platoon splits the last two years have been very big. It looks like they think that's a real thing.
Meanwhile, I want to remind folks that no true sentence can be constructed of the form "Drew Pomeranz throws ___ mph." He had his best velo of the season in his last start before the DL, was reportedly in the same range in his last rehab start, and then had his worst velo in his first start returning.

And they no doubt want to keep him. I could see Cora asking him to not run into walls and to not dive into the stands. Or maybe not dive at all.

With the Red Sox win and Astros loss last night, the Red Sox now have the best run differential in baseball (+178 vs Astros +177). Not that this matters much. I just kind of like when the Red Sox have the best run differential in the league.
